Price check on 586 no dash.
Looking into my first revolver and I'm set on a prelock smith. Really like the 686 and 629. For now I'm going 357. I'm in cali btw. There's a 586 no dash close by that I'm settling for. It's nickel finish 4" barrel. Has not had the recall done yet. Unknown round count and no box or paperwork. Seller is asking $850. Seems steep and Im wondering whats a fair price. Can you guys shed some light? I was set on a 686-3 4" but it's 7 hours away. I'm not trying to collect it, so as soon as I get it, or find what I want, I'm going to put it to work.

$850 would be close to the high end. I think $700 is average in Houston for 586 in good condition without papers or box. They are good revolvers.

From what I've seen a fair price for California, though I'd advise holding out for a M686. It's what you really want, and stainless is more forgiving than nickel.

No reason not to buy both. Nothing wrong with the 586 though the 686 is more popular. :-)
