So I just bought a 340 PD no lock, looking closely I noticed rough machine marks on the face of the barrel, which rubs ever so slightly on the cylinder as I open and close it.. I know the end of the clyinder has a very sensitive coating and I can't imagine rubbing on those machine marks will help its service life.. I have a 329 PD and a 327 PC. They both have the same amount of slight barrel to cylinder contact on opening and closing, but the barrel faces are machined glass smooth... I measured the barrel to cylinder gap at .004 which is perfect.. What should I do? I could smooth the end of the barrel but that would open up the gap and possibly un-true the end of the barrel. Am I just being to picky? Thanks!

Now that I look even closer.. It appears that the material on the barrel face may be coating rubbing off from the cylinder?

I'd give S&W a call, and send it in. But, that is just me.

Hard to tell from the pic, but could that just be lead / powder fouling?

If there are rough machine marks on a clean forcing cone face, and the cylinder face is rubbing against the forcing cone, then it does need to go back.
