Default Out of curiosity?

The last new S&W revolver that I bought was purchased in the mid '90s, and it has been a while since I was in the market for another S&W. I know that during the 2000s, just before my accident (IIRC) S&W was selling their L and N framed revolvers with the receiver (under the rear sight base) drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Does S&W still drill and tap the L and N frame revolvers for scope mounts? If they do, are the scope mounts proprietary, or can virtually any manufacturer's base be used, provided that it is made for the correct Smith?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Drilling and tapping three holes under adjustable sights for mounting optics has been standard on K, L, and N frames since approximately the mid-1990s. I can not put a single date on the change. For example, 629 Classics were drilled and tapped for a few years as dash 3s before drilling and tapping 629s without the full lug started as a dash 4 upgrade. Several companies make or have made the mounts.

All current production Smiths with adjustable sights are d&t at the factory. However, J-frames with adjustable sights, few that there are, are not.
