Thinking about getting this 629, value?
I have a private seller offering me this. I haven't been told a price yet by him but I'm curious what would be a going price for these?

It's a rare gun, but since it's post-lock, it's one that could be produced again by S&W, which often drives value on rare guns. I'd say $800-$1000 would be fair if you're willing to pay it. I'd prefer a 3" 629-2, and would pay $300-$400 more than I'd pay for this one, but that's personal preference, not market value.

I don't know if its the same gun or not but there were some 44 magnums like that recalled for cracking frames. Someone else might know for sure the exact model I'm speaking of.

I can't tell but from the front sight this appears to be the 629 "carry"

It's a Performance Center gun but not sure of the exact product code or what specific variation of the M629-6 that is. It does has a number of special features: the PowerPort, dovetail front sight, unique barrel contour, trigger stop, flash chromed forged trigger and hammer. The biggest thing is the fixed rear sight. That is VERY unusual on a M629. I'm think, with the box and in the excellent condition it appears to be, it's a $1,000 gun plus or minus 20%.

I am one that only buys guns for actual needs. So in my case, already owning a 3" 629, there would be no desire to own another one so similar. Especially a later revision.
If you want it, go for it though. Everyone is different.

I would agree if they were the same, but they are very different. Plus I kinda want to shoot a 44 magnum with a port.

I don't think I would give $500 for that.

Gunbroker. They were close to the lowest prices on nib guns with 0 bids and no reserve.
I saw several PC guns at or over $1k, but think they're overpriced.

That's true for those because they're still in production while the 629-6 Carry Comp is not. In exc. condition in the PC case with papers and fired shell casing they go for $11-1200 and sometimes more depending on the bidding. Obviously they aren't a pre-lock but they're still a desirable little gun. If one went up on GB in the above described condition for $850 BIN it'd be gone in less than 10 minutes. If the OP's is just the gun then your price would be close.

I'll say it again. This M629 is VERY uncommon due to the fixed sight. Since the beginning of time there's only been a a few hundred FS M629's made EVER. It's kind of a big deal.

It seems like you are comparing current production guns to this gun that isn't being produced anymore.

Thanks Kernel, your post did not get unnoticed. It actually convinced me to end up with this revolver unless the owner decides to throw out a crazy price. Apparently we will find out Saturday or Sunday. Fingers crossed...

Comparing this revolver to other M629's is a apples to oranges comparison. This gun is so different it should actually be an entirely different model number. It's more like comparing a M65 to a M66 in a world where only a tiny number of M65 were made.

Hopefully by this time next week I'll own it with a little luck. A letter from S&W will be next. Again, fingers crossed...

It wouldnt shock me one bit to see that gun complete an auction between $1500 and $2000. As stated by Kernel above, a fixed sight 629 snub is a big deal. If that seller will take $1000, i would say you made out like a bandit. If you are unwilling to offer at least $1000, then please pm me at your earliest convenience.

Boy, I'm embarrassed, I didn't pull up the pictures, thought it was current production 3". Sorry
Yes a fixed sight 629 is something very desirable. Good luck indeed!
It's ironic because I lusted after a fixed sight 629-3 carry comp for years and gave up on ever finding one. Did buy a 2 5/8 Perf. Center that was factory cut for moon clips.

You won't be sorry!
This model was my latest find and I'm still working up loads for it. It's a PC 629-6 with the case and all original contents, NMC low SN. It's very well behaved, with that comp making even some heavier factory loads manageable and accurate for follow-up shots. Circa 2000 mfr date, I think(Sorry, it's Jan 2006 from the casing envelope). A retail price around $800-$1,000 would be good, lower with a private sale.
It's my way of getting even for letting that new 696 slip by me back in the 90's.

I heard you the first time!
Apparently not everybody did.
I have never seen one of these.
Not sure if I would buy it, but sure would like to see one!

@Blackgun1,
Just about anything is possible to carry concealed the question is can you get more than one shot off controllable. My hat is off to anyone who can do it with a .44 magnum.
You may get time in the woods but out out here on the streets very few second chances.
If I thought I could handle one beyond the range I might be incline, but doubt I could even handle one on the range.
Again, more power to ya if you can.
There is a reason why law enforcement carry 9mm in guns that weight enough to control it.
Back in the day the cops never practiced with .357 magnums they only carried it. Practice done with .38 specials.
Now the cops actually practice with the loads they carry.
Makes sense to me.
Point is, while some may say just practice with .44 special in your .44 magnum does that really help you in a real life situation if you intend to carry magnum loads in it ?

Thinking about getting this 629, value?
I just posted the video so readers could see one beyond a photo. I do carry my 629 PC, but with specials unless I'm in the woods. I'd never carry a 44 mag round for bad guy protection. 45, 44 Special, and 9mm for me.
