Default Lost Screw to Grip???

I have a .44MAG, MOD 629,, 8 3/8 “, N 841564
serial # R19 76xxx. It came with wooden grips which were just a bit too big for me. I replaced the grips with Pachmayr grips. I am considering trading it, or selling it. The gun will not fit in the wooden presentation box with the Pachmayr grips on it. I lost the screw for the wooden grips. I haven't researched what it would be worth, but I think I will do better with the original grips on it, and in the wooden presentation box. I ordered a replacement screw, but when it came in, the threading was correct, but it was just a bit too short to work. Does anyone have any suggestions of finding a replacement screw? S&W said they didn't have one, and the local gunsmiths I have spoken with didn't have any that fit either.

Thanks in advance.

You can find them on eBay for about $10.

Default EBAY

The one I bought off ebay is the one that is too short. I would like to find one that I know would fit, or that I could return.

Just about every eBay ad for grip screws includes a photo of the screw against a tape measure so you know the length. Now that you know how much longer the right screw would be based upon how much too short the one you bought is, just shop accordingly.

Take the screw to the hardware store. Buy 1 a little longer with the same thread. You can reduce the head size to fit the stocks as it should. I place the screw in my drill press, and hold a file against the head as it turns. (be careful not to damage threads) You should have under $2 in it. Bob
