[PIC] S&W Model 64 NY-1 3", Round Butt
Got lucky for the second time in 5-6 weeks with the 3" Smiths. Picked this up today. It is a S&W Model 64 NY-1 with a 3" barrel and round butt. I understand that this is a less common configuration. There were only about 516 of the 3" round butt 64 NY-1s made, according to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.
It is in good shape with marks consistent with normal handling and use. Shoots great.

Great catch on a very desirable and somewhat uncommon revolver.

Nice unusual Mdl. 64.
Is it D/A only; just the hammer spur removed; or did S&W produce them with the bobbed hammer as the NY-1 ?

You will likely find that to be a sweet shooter and a good carry piece. I lucked into a pair of them about 20 years ago and still have one. Mine has the hammer bobbed, but no other function mod. It could, with some handling difficulty, be cocked and fired SA.

The NY-1 configuration, in both 3 inch and 4 inch, is one of those guns, like the 5 inch CM or 5 inch K38, the 4 inch RB ONI Model 19, the 3 inch Model 19, etc. that should have been in the catalog all along. Too often, S&W failed to capitalize on selling very desirable LE models to everyone else for LE use by those officers who could use a personally owned weapon, or by ordinary citizens for defense.
It seems obvious, doesn't it, that if a certain model is good for defense by an officer, it would be equally good for defense by a private citizen?

It is double action only internals with no hammer spur. Works well for me. I only shoot DAO.
