So, I said I'd never buy another used gun from Gunbroker.........
The last couple of used guns I bought on GB have had some issues, an unfired M14 that had two chambers that would rub on the barrel, a trip back to Springfield and $150 dollars later this was fixed, and a 25-7 that someone had polished the case hardening from the hammer and trigger . $75 dollars later this was fixed.
Then this came along: SMITH WESSON COMPETITOR !7 SHOT!PERFORMANCE CENTER : Revolvers at GunBroker.com
Most of my shooting these days is competitive, bowling pins and practical pistol at the local range. Being as I'm a die hard revolver shooter, pretty much the only one at the matches, (the other shooters say I shoot "old guy guns"), I had been thinking about buying a Competitor and having this very thing done.
When I found this on GB. I thought about it for 3-4 hours, called Apex Tactical and talked to them, and pushed the buy it now button.
It sounds and looks really nice, I hope I don't regret it. It somewhere between Oregon and Maine now. I guess I'll know if it was a mistake at the end of the week.

That looks nice.
Like fast cars and high-end women you're never done spending money ............. now you'll need "old guy sights".

I took it even further and said I would never buy any gun again off Gunbroker, new or used.
Although I once said to myself I would never buy from Buds online and just bought a new Sig P290 (in the .380 flavor) yesterday from them.
We will see.
(unanswered questions as to whether they are selling used/returned guns as new)

If I didn't buy off Gunbroker I wouldn't be able to find the ones I've been looking for.

I've had mixed results buying from Gunbroker...... Had a couple of poor experiences. The last one was (several years ago now) was a Colt Officer's Model Match .38. Description was "locks up 'Bank Vault Tight'"..... Well, it did in double action but in single action, it was out of time. So, with limited prospects of getting it fixed soon or with minimum cost, I traded it to a LGS for a Model 10 standard barrel, blue with box and accessories and a slight "acne" at the barrel tip which was negligible. In any case, the Colt and $50 or $75 later and I had a pretty NIB Model 10. It (the m-10) DOES lock up "bank vault tight!"
Your revolver looks very nice...! Hope it is great condition and you like it a lot!

buying from gunbroker is OK.....make sure you ask the right questions and receive good answers; look carefully at all pictures and get more if needed....before you push the button.....

I wonder how many threads have started with "I swore I wouldn't buy another gun..."
I'd have to sit down and count how many guns I've purchased off GB, but I can tell you off the top of my head it's close to three dozen, and that isn't counting the ancillary stuff like magazines and barrels - just firearms. Only had two issues - a Winchester 94 with a loading gate that wouldn't move far enough to load the gun (and it was my fault for not catching that at my pre-purchase inspection); and a shipper (not the seller, the FFL) who mixed up two guns he was sending for my seller - I got some other guys' 25-2 and he got my 28-2. I offered to just call it square and keep the ones we were sent, but he declined... That one took a lot of time, aggravation, and threatening legal action against the shipper to resolve.
I've been happy using GB. Better selection and a better chance for getting deal than at GA, where the prices seem to be of the "cost you an arm and a leg" variety.

I have purchased many of my guns on GB. My FFL tells me I am going to get burnt one of these days, but so far so good.

Guns are like tattoos, once you get one you can't stop. Not that I have a tattoo, but from what I've seen. I bought my first gun in December and just got another Saturday. I'm already looking at a Dan Wesson CCO.

Oh you're just gettin' started. I said "one" tattoo and turned into five. One is my avatar. I'm at around thirty some odd guns (not all off GB) and still got my eyes on a few more.

I'll agree about the guns, but I only have one tattoo.

Lol. Yeah, I know. Not only am I just getting started, it seems like each subsequent gun gets more expensive. 1) Walter PPS, Dec. 2015; 2) m&p 9L PC, 9/3/16; 3) Dan Wesson CCO, date:? However, there are a couple S&W guns i'm looking at. I do want a 45acp.

I've bought 6 used guns off GB and the last 2 were definitely bad purchases. The pics didn't show the true condition, one had a few issues with the timing lock/up that weren't disclosed, took another $75 to get that worked out. The other had a great action/timing/lock up but again the condition was not represented in the photos.
So 4 out of 6 were good. I'd rather buy from the folks here than anywhere else online when it comes to used S&Ws.

Could be that his hand is about an inch too low on the grip.

I've bought several dozen guns on GB with just two "misunderstandings" that were quickly corrected, thanks to the sellers' return policies. One 686 needed a new double-action sear and the other had aftermarket look-alike stocks. In both cases, a phone call from the shop where my online purchases are received was all that was required to straighten things out.
ALWAYS insist on a three-day inspection period or decline to bid, it's that easy to protect yourself.

I've bought several guns off Gunbroker, and generally they have been chosen for being less than pristine but priced accordingly. All have lived up to expectation and were at least as good as advertised. YMMV, of course.

Because I was holding it to take a picture... not to take a shot. I had one hand on the camera and one on the gun. I hope that helps.

So, I thought I would update this thread. I got the gun about a week ago and it is everything that the seller said it was. I couldn't be more pleased!
Both cylinders carry up and time perfectly, and the action job is great. I don't know if I like the trigger as well as the guns Andy Cannon tuned for me back in the eighties but it is pretty sweet.
The only changes I will make was to buy the parts so I won't have to swap the ejector rod assembly when I swap cylinders, and I think that I'll send the 6 round cylinder out and have it cut for moonclips.
I had it to the range last weekend, and set up a short combat course, a couple ipsc targets, a couple plates and a couple bowling pins. After sighting in on the targets it was no problem making a zone headshots at 15 yards rapid fire and you can't miss on the pins and plates! I also went bang every time I pulled the trigger which is something I was concerned about on a gun that had action work.
So I definitely have to give GB good marks on this one.

Bought two Colts off of GB, both had issues not disclosed by sellers. Both returned because of 3 day day inspection and a good gunsmith who knows Colts. Had better luck with Rugers and a couple of S&W's. Issues are not always obvious looking at the pictures. I have no bid several auctions because seller says "as-is" and "no inspection" which is another way to say "No Thanks".

I only buy......
I only buy from sellers with a lot of sales and an A+ reputation. That cuts down on your buying choices but if you can wait, one will usually come around.

Last time I checked earlier today someone has the exact same gun on a local gun trader site for $975.

Bought at least 20 guns from gunbroker. Probably 18 of them used. Never been burned. I have sold as many and have an A+ Rating. New guns generally aren't a deal because you have to pay for shipping and transfer and I can just ask my local dealer to order me something if I want a new gun. But when you see a discontinued gun, you gotta take the risk. I just got a 5903 for a very good price. Seller had like 12 high def pics,
Including ones with the gun field stripped. Don't buy from somebody with little feedback or ****** pictures.

On line purchases in general and the 'GB' sites in particular are a fascinating phenomena to me-will never understand why so many agree to one way sales AND why so many will take money away from the lgs for about a $20 bill-which is what it usually works out to be for us when we have priced a gun locally and on line figuring shipping/transfer fees and even the lack of paying sales tax.
If there is a foolproof way to protect the best interests of both sides I sure would like to know about it-especially with used gun sales.

I've been looking for a 2.5" or 3" 66 for a long time local. Nothing to be found. GB is the only place I see them.

Last week I bought a S&W model 64 round butt 3 inch from a pawn shop in North Carolina. They stated the had not fired it and it was badly in need of cleaning. I received an invoice on Monday replied with copy of FFL and CC #. I received a USPS tracking number in less than 1 hour. The gun arrived at my FFL on Wednesday and I filed out 4473 and brought gun home.
Their description was right on very dirty as stated but after cleaning found it to be in good shape.
I am very happy with quality of the gun and service from seller.

wood714, I understand the allure of finding something that you are interested in, would you enter into a sales agreement/pay for up front prior to seeing the gun with a no inspection-no return caveat in the agreement?
If so how is payment made, what sort of personal info is exchanged??
Do any of the sites provide 'real' relief in the event of a significant difference between what was described/represented and what was received???

If you get enough tattoos, they all join into each other and you have only ONE big tattoo.
I keep expecting to open my safe and find only one .50 Cal sniper rifle.

I understand that sites like GunBroker do help arbitrate cases of misrepresentation but I have no first-hand experience with that service. I have, however, had three experiences with guns purchased on GB that exhibited something negative. In all three cases, those experiences were handled in a positive manner.
I purchased a limited-production Model 686 from a young man who was selling it for his relative's estate. The photos were not as clear as I would have liked but there was a stated return policy so I bought it. When the gun arrived, the gun was exactly as advertised except that the stocks were copies - very good ones, but copies none the less. I contacted the seller and in minutes we settled upon a compensation amount.
The hammer of another 686 would not travel fully rearward in double-action mode. The gunsmith to whom my Internet purchases are shipped found that someone had modified the double-action sear and it required replacement. A call to the seller resulted in the $68 repair estimate being refunded to my credit card.
The third instance was a lot more involved. I bought a new Remington Model 700MK/S, a Custom Shop rifle that carried a hefty list price, from a dealer in Arizona who had ordered a quantity of those rifles for a corporate customer who turned out to need one fewer so that extra one was being sold. Those rifles were built with blind magazines but the dealer had modified the expensive Kevlar stocks with hinged floorplates, thus compromising a custom-made rifle's originality. In the end, and without a lot of debate, I received $900 in compensation from the seller.
The moral is that if you buy only from sellers with a high rating on a significant quantity of transactions who extend a return policy, your chances of being burned are reduced tremendously. I've even had guns arrive in better condition than the seller stated!
Sites like GB are the world's largest candy stores for us firearm enthusiasts. If my local shops don't have something I want, I go to GunBroker and bid with confidence.

Couldn't agree more.
I've bought a number of Smith revolvers from sellers on GB; followed the above advice; never been disappointed with the item.

Interesting, it sure would be easier for me if GB, for instance, had a section only for sellers that offer an inspection period-I have yet to find one that did not state that all sales were final and yes of course these people all had A+++++++ ratings with thousands and thousands of positive reviews.
How about this 'brokered sale' thing?

I've seen a lot of guns for sale on there with a 3 to 6 day inspection period. Seen even more thou that was sales final.

If I see a gun that interests me but has no inspection period and hasn't attracted any bids (probably for that reason), I email the seller to advise him that I would bid on the gun if he did offer an inspection period. As long as there are no bids, the seller can make changes to an auction and unless there is something wrong with the gun, they often will make that change.

I have purchased very few guns that were not NIB or FTF. I am sad to say one of the most misrepresented used revolvers purchased on line was on this forum. It was a 2nd owner 629 no dash that was advertised as being in excellent condition with a tight lockup and excellent function (timing). When I received the revolver the finish was very good.
But yolk end shake required 2 x .002 yolk bearings to keep the yoke in place and cylinder end shake was in excess of .004".
The only fortunate thing was this purchase was about 10 years ago and the price of 629 no dash revolvers has only went north since then.
I was disappointed about the purchase at that time but decided to let it ride. The seller was a popular forum good guy........Buyer be ware. I you buy anything site unseen you are always rolling the dice.
