Default Wilson Combat Custom Tune Spring Kit for S&W K,L,N Frame Revolvers--results

I installed a Wilson Combat spring kit in my S&W Model 25-15 .45 Colt revolver. At the same time I installed one in my S&W Model 586 38/357 Mag revolver. I thought I would post the results for anyone thinking of installing this spring kit in their revolver. I couldn't tell the results of the double action pull on either gun as my pull gauge only goes to 8lbs and both were over that before and after installing the kits. I can tell you that the double action pull on both was much smoother than before the kits. The kit comes with a reduced power hammer spring and a 12, 13 and 14lb reduced power rebound spring. I elected to split the difference and go with the 13lb rebound spring in both guns. The model 25 single action pull went from 5.5lbs to 3.5lbs. The Model 586 went from 4.5lbs to 3lbs. I hope to get a better trigger gauge soon so I can see what the DA pull is on both. This kit is by far the best bang for the buck gun upgrade I have ever made.

I bought one and installed it in a 620. I knew I was going to have issues when felt how light the hammer was. Sure enough it couldn't ignite my cci primers. I haven't really bother with reduced power mainsprings since in any of my guns. I do however use reduced power rebound springs or cut a coil or two off the factory springs.

Installing a spring kit without any other work is going to be a **** shoot. If you want to see the expected results AND have your gun be reliable it would pay to spend some time smoothing things up inside the action. You can't expect an 11 or 12lb spring to return a rough rebound slide and trigger that required an 18 lb spring from the factory. A little time spent polishing the rebound slide, frame, trigger, hammer, and cylinder stop will allow those lighter springs to work as reliably as the heavier factory parts they replaced. Everybody has their preference but a 2lb S/A pull and an 8lb D/A pull have reliably fired every round I load. I just did some work on a 617 for a friend. Started off at 4 1/2lb single and 12 1/2lb double. Smoothed a few things up and installed an 11lb rebound spring and ended up with 2 1/8 single, 8lb double. 100% reliability with cheap Remington Gold ammo.
