Did I accidentally buy an Model 66 F-Comp?
I went to nearby gun store intending to leave with a 686+ Pro Series, when I saw this little beauty in the display case. My plan went out the door, loved its look, loved its feel, (and its price was right), I had to have it.
I didn't know much about the Model 66 as I had only researched the 686 as I had been intending to get one. After I got home I started looking for info on Performance Center Model 66's. Info seemed rather limited, but the F-Comp kept coming up in my search results and how much people wanted/were looking for them, and noticed they looked (except for the grips which widely varied) like what I had just bought.
I never get that lucky, but in this case, did I accidentally luck into a Model 66-6 3" F-Comp?
(There are 4 digits in the number under the red scribble in the 1st attachment.)

Yes, plus is has the lock.
(Please, no more debate regarding the lock!)
Search for countless previous threads on the subject. If we start a new one, the forum admin will have to buy a bigger hard drive for their server!

So I did buy an F-Comp.
Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, I noticed the lock. I decided I'd worry about it when/if it becomes a problem. I if doesn't become a problem, I'm just going to pretend its not there.
Are these really as sought after as it seemed to me from the different boards/sites I came across?
I know the pre-lock models will go for more, but does anyone know where about a 66-6 with the lock goes for these days?
I think I did good on the price but I'm not having to much luck confirming if I did or not. (Not that it really matters, the stores not going to give me a rebate if I over paid. Its more I'm just curious)

If you had the factory case/box the label would have some information on it detailing exactly what you have.

For the right price, I would have bought that in a heartbeat.

Good looking gun but I wouldn't buy it because of the 666.

The store did throw in an older, but still in good shape leather pistol pouch, but unfortunately it did not come with the factory case/box.

Is it the Devil's own gun?????............................ will it "Kill" on it's own??
As a test.....leave in on the table overnight and see if it moves........ or if "Chucky" comes to the door!!!!!
Note: don't answer the door with that gun in hand ....... but do have a gun to blow away any 3ft Dolls that are there!!!!! Don't talk just shoot!!!!!

That's a stunning piece to stumble across. I would have probably gotten that instead of the 686+ as well! Congrats!

Thanks for all the replies.
The range near my house is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays so I haven't actually shot it yet. I'm planning to go after work tomorrow. If it shoots as good as the trigger feels Im expecting I'll like it very much.
On a side note, does anyone know if its possible to removed the grip thats on it? There are no visible screws (at least none that I have found) and I don't want to mess it up trying to take it off.
Id like to replace the grip if I can. Its not a crisis but its just a tad to small for my hand so I would like to replace it with something slightly beefier, and possible wood.

Those are Hogue Bantam grips. They posted posted this video. You'll need a few credit cards...

Nice revolver and congratulations.
It would be a good idea to get those rubbers off the gun.
They do nothing for the looks of a gun but they are liked
by lots of folks for function and shooting.
They will trap moisture underneath them where wood will
not.
Let us know how it shoots for you.
Chuck
