Default Should I get my 629-1 back from S&W? First time using their gunsmith

Well the 629 I got ended up having a cross threaded screw on the sideplate. I called S&W and said they would send me a return label to look at and fix it. WOW! So nice I thought. So I sent it about a month ago and haven't heard anything. I called today to see if I can expect to get my revolver back anytime soon and Im told this.

The guy said they received it into repairs on the 29th...

I explained to him past face value I had no idea what he just said meant.

He went on to explain to me "This gun isnt under warantee so there are quite a few that are that need to be looked at prior to yours. It usually takes 7-8 weeks for that. Then they will mail you an estimate to repair it and setup payment method."

Still didnt answer when I could expect to get it or hell, will it cost me $600 repair? Kinda confused by their customer service. Should I request to get it back and send to a different gunsmith or see it through with S&W?

should be a week after you authorize and pay for the repair.Should be under $100.00,unless they have to make a replacement side plate for it.

When your number comes up, you will get an estimate for the cost to repair your gun and what they expect to do to get it repaired. You must agree to what they propose and make arrangements to pay for the repairs at that time. You can choose not to follow through if you wish. I believe there is a fee (used to be $45) for their time to examine and estimate cost for the repairs needed. You can pay that and they will return your gun to you as long as it is not in some way unsafe. Meantime, you have to take your turn!
