My Rose of San Antone
While knocking around the gun show up in Houston today, I found this 65-3 in like new shape. It's stamped "S.A.P.D.", so I am assuming San Antonio Police (though it could be San Angelo). I'd been wanting a larger .357 to go with my 60-9. As nice a shape as this one is, I'm guessing the officer who owned it spent most of his career either at HQ or having breakfast at Mi Tierras!
If anyone knows the year of manufacture, I'd certainly be thankful if you let me know. I'm guessing around 1986-87.

My first duty station in the 'Force was San Antone, naturally. My second... San Angelo, great little (back then) place. Nice pick.
That "down the barrel" shot's a bit spooky: six snap caps, but only five live rounds. ?!?

Nice catch -- looks like a hollow point peeking out of one of the chambers.

I know. I only had five hollow points. The rest were upstairs in the mancave with my M60 and its speedloaders. No way in Hades I take that photo unless I check 3x that there is nothing in any of the cylinders. In retrospect, I should have taken the photo with the cylinder open. I appreciate and respect the observation though.

It's actually stainless. With all our Gulf Coast humidity, I actually prefer it to blued.

I'd say your dating is probably correct, likely later 1986.

Model 65 SAPD Stamped
The S&W Model 65 .357 was issued from 1979 Thru 1991 when the Glock was introduced as an issued sidearm for SAPD.
