There are a few variations of the description you provided. If your SN prefix is "PCG" then it looks like it might be 686 Mag Comp. 300 made in 1992ish.

Mine is a little different. 686 Carry Comp..

I think onemanwolfpack nailed it. The OP likely has a product code 170010. Note how low that number is. It was one of the Performance Center's first offerings. The distributor Lew Horton had 326 made in 1992. The earliest ones were -3, but the change of to -4 occurred during the short production run, so the last ones are -4's.

OP, you say the gun is new and never shot. Surely then you have the original box. Post a pic of gun and the label, or at least divulge the .....
1). Product Code
2). Spec. Ord. number
3). Serial number
It would further the discussion, because then we'd know what it is you really have.

i contacted smith wesson it was the 249th one made and sold to lew horton. smith said they only made 300 of them, #249 is engraved on the frame showing it was the 249th one made. i bought it from a private party
in 1997 for 500.00. the man wanted the money so he could buy a glock.
what an idiot he was. i will never shoot it, i have too many guns as it is. i will keep it and someday it should be worth alot of money.

It's a desirable Smith for sure. A collector would place a higher value on it than a shooter. Ballpark it ~$2k. Could be more...could be less.

Note: I am not an expert...just a guy who likes shiny objects.

As noted, your gun with the PCG serial prefix was part of the first run of the Mag Comp guns, and had a 6 shot cylinder. As noted, the run was for ~ 300 pieces. Product code as noted above.

The second run of these was made after (occurred in the 1996/97 timeframe), and had a product code of 170074. The difference was the serial number prefix, which was TPC, and this model had a 7 shot cylinder. This second run totaled 366 pieces.

Neat gun, your gun, if NIB, should be worth over $2k in this current market.

As to nomenclature, lots of descriptions abound, the first flyers from Lew Horton called the first run the Mag Comp, as noted it had a six shot cylinder and a front night sight.

The second run was called the Carry Comp or just 686 Comp in the brochures., and/or depending on who you talked to at Lew Horton.
This later gun was in the -4 config and had both front and rear night sights.

Here's a pic of the second version that I had in the collection... The flyer above shows Uncle Mikes rubber grips, but the early guns (this one s/n 13) came with Eagle Secret Service grips:
