Default 629 Stealth Hunter Finish; White Dots

On my 629 these tiny white dots are showing up on the finish (shown in attached pics) and I can't figure out how to remove them? Does anyone have any idea what they are?

I use CLP to clean it and clean it after every time I shoot it.

I've never used CLP. Mostly Ballistol. I have a Black Comp Hunter and a Magnum Hunter and have never seen anything like that. That would turn my stomach if that happened to one of mine. Try Some Ballistol or anything that doesn't have ammonia in it and you might get lucky.

Do you live near salt water? Almost looks like salt spots. Hard to say for sure.

It looks like powder residue on top of the finish. Can you feel the dots on the surface? I thought this finish was Black-T, which should stand up fine to normal shooting and cleaning.

Gee, what if it's "under" the finish, and they're getting exposed more & more after you handle/fondle/polish it during and after each use?

I'm thinking it might be well worth sending those pictures to S&W and let them take a look. If it is a problem with the gun's finish, they should own up to it and make it right.

"I'm not sure" it is, but it's worth checking out.

I would contact S&W with the pics. Seems to me to be either a form of corrosion or a reaction to a solvent. In most cases of Black Finished guns, and you are the original owner, S&W will refinish it once.

Do you spray solvent directly on the gun or on a rag and then apply where needed? (Looks like spray to me....)

I can't feel them when I run my fingernail across the surface. I usually spray CLP onto a rag or toothbrush and wipe on. I do not directly spray on the revolver. I'll have to try something else and see if maybe they will wipe off.

Looks to me like the surface was hot and something was sprayed on it.

I'm assuming you are referring to Breakfree CLP the lubricant, not the powder removal spray? The spray sometimes can leave peculiarities with finishes after it dries but those typically go away when wiping down with a lubricant. I'd also think about trying frog lube. Personally wouldn't use it on internals, but this stuff has worked great for me on firearms with blued or matte finish.

Have you tried wiping it with Hoppe's no. 9?

I did attempt to remove the dots with no. 9 and other lubes/solvents and the dots were not removed. I'm not sure where to go from here?

As was suggested 9 months ago, get a hold of S&W.
