5" 629 Classic joins the herd
Picked this up yesterday.
Has been shot but not much.
Box and documents but no cleaning tools etc.
Will be taking this in the woods in WV the week of Thanksgiving to try and get my first deer with a revolver

The -3 was a great dash number, and a 5-inch barrel is good at many things. Not for nothin' did the US Military of the early 20th Century like the 5-inch handgun so much. The same "brain trust" that brought us the .30-06, the .45 ACP, and the Colt 1911. Just to name a few.

Neat, love the full underlug 5" and the flash chromed hammer trigger, Also while not a fan of rubber grips I do like the ones with the medallions wish they all came that way.
I have its blued revisional twin the 29-5 Classic 5", Also have a 629-4 classic 5" although its a square butt both are my favorite versions of the S&W 44 Mag.

I found one like new in a pawn shop about 15 years ago. I like it a bunch, so much so that I bought a 5 inch 629 for each of my sons. Thankfully, there are only two. That reminds me that I have not taken it out to play for quite a while. Maybe this is the week!

I have a 629-3 with 6 1/2" barrel and it shoots like a laser.I bought it from a coworker in 1992 for $400 , it was only shot a few time with factory ammo. I was going to buy a 5" new but I couldn't pass up this one.Someday if lucky I'll find a nice one with 5" barrel. My -3 has the best factory trigger of all the Smith and Wesson revolvers I own.
Very nice 629 Masterbuck54 , hope you have good luck with yours!

Great acquisition man! Now all you need to do is to ditch the Goodyears and put a proper set of wood stocks on it. I like the Kim Ahrends lines of stocks myself and is what I put on my 6 1/2" 629-3 Classic.

I have a 629 Classic 6.5" and love it. A 5" version is on my short list.... Nice score, enjoy!

I bought the 6-1/2" version of this revolver when it first came out. Subsequently, it ended up back at the Smith factory where I had an unfluted cylinder fitted to it. Every time I break it out I get admiring comments, and one of my buddies has all but told me that if the cancer I am currently fighting gets me, he expects his name to be on that revolver when the time comes.

Love my 5" -3 as well.
Never a fan of the rubber grips, I replaced them with a with a set of Kurac targets.
The wood not only looks better (John does fantastic work) but they feel so much better IMHO.

Ah, a 629 with a 5" barrel, it doesn't get much more impressive than that! Got lucky back in 2008 and found one LNIB. If it had not been had a 5" barrel I would have passed. I am a big sucker for a 5" revolver. It's one sweet shooting Big Boy revolver.
