Model 69, .44 mag, 2 1/2 or 3"?
I'm having trouble searching, so maybe someone can help.
1. Has s&w made any short barrel model 69s?
2. Has anyone shortened a Model 69?
Thanks for the help!

1. Not yet, AFAIK. If they had it would be a big news.
2. Probably, but I've never seen one, here or elsewhere. It has a two piece barrel, so that complicates things.

I seem to remember someone posting here several months ago about making a new barrel for his 69, but I don't think it was that short. Look in the Smithing forum 4-6 months back.

Found the thread, but the person (PSD) made a longer barrel, not shorter. The thread is right here if you want to see what kind of work was involved in making his new barrel. The work this person did was veryyyy nice!

If you have to make both a barrel and a shroud why can't a barrel be made that is one piece? I guess I just don't understand it's construction.

Lew Horton is more or less the king of special order Smith & Wesson snubs in my opinion. I'm surprised they haven't touched the M69 yet, seeing as how it's such an bovious candidate for a snub barrel. Wasn't putting the .44RM on the L frame to make it more compact and carriable? Obvious next step....sub 4" barrel.

Shirt barrel model 69
I've been saying this since the model 69 was introduced. Why not a snub nose round but model? It makes perfect sense. It's an L frame 5 shot. I would have one already if they did. Makes a great defensive weapon with decent .44 special ammo with the ability to carry magnum rounds when needed. Come on S&W, take a look at the possibilities.

S&W is magnanimous. They don't want to put Charter Arms out of business.

You know, with more and more S&W revolvers coming out using a 2 piece, pre-tensioned barrel, it would seem an opportunity for the aftermarket barrel makers to make different length barrels (and shrouds) as well as the barrel tensioning tools for folks who would want to play around with their Smiths with 2 piece barrels. That way you could have a Dan Wesson-like revolver, but based on a S&W frame.

That would certainly make sense to me.

Isn't Smith's two piece barrel design patented? Pretty sure it is, or was.

Kernel, I don't see how the idea could be patented by S&W as Dan Wesson has been making pre-tensioned 2 piece barrels for 40 years or so. Maybe they have a patent on their tensioning tools, but I just don't see how a 2 piece barrel could have a patent. But then I'm no lawyer or up on patent laws either.

When I first saw the Model 69 I thought it would not be long before S&W made a 3" round butt version.
Looks like they're missing the boat.
