With that long barrel that N frame revolver seems rather large. Do any owners care to comment as to how it balances for you. Do you wish it was lighter? PERFORMANCE CENTER(R) Model 929 | Smith & Wesson

Maybe they'll one day make a version with a Scandium-Aluminum frame. They've done it for other N-frames. It would lighten it significantly.

I'd like a scandium frame with a steel cylinder and a 2.625" Barrel.

Not too heavy. Some weight makes the gun more pleasant to shoot and the longer barrel with longer sight radius improves marksmanship. Don

Edited to add, "oops" I was thinking 629 vs 929, my bad. Don

Not too heavy in my opinion. But I've only shot one .44 Magnum revolver and appreciated the heft when it went "BANG"!!!!

Wink

I definitely consider the barrel on the 929 is too long. The factory guys convince themselves the world is demanding a long barrel 9mm so that's it. Of course I had to have one so maybe they were right.

Nearly 3 pounds to shoot a 9mm. Just what I never wanted!

It reminds me of the UZI Model A I bought back around 1980. It felt like holding a concrete block to shoot tiny ammo. When Glock came out with their M17/19 I bought one. . .that was in 1988. I was delighted with it. Just felt more appropriate. I did sell the UZI for a fortune about 5 years ago.

Seems there's 386s in 9x19 for a lighter package. Or TRR8s, 327s, etc. if you want 8 shots in a lightweight. Don't want to shoot .357s? Then use .38 Short Colt cases. Regardless, the 929 seems to suit quite a few IPSC and ICORE folk. (After they "race-ify" 'em as needed.)

I'm not the one to complain about weight, as the revolvers I shoot most have either 10 5/8" barrels or have full underlugs and at least 6" barrels.

And a short barrel (4") on their 45 ACP revolvers.
