While it's probably safe from a metallurgical standpoint, the extra pressure will put added stress on the components, and cause additional wear and tear.
Smith and Wesson's directive in the current revolver manual is to use the caliber designation found on the barrel of the revolver.....
" Locate the cartridge designation marked on the firearm. This
information indicates the correct ammunition that must be used
in this firearm. "
Using this guidance, since your revolver is marked ".38 S&W Special Ctg." or similar, I would deem the +p cartridge out of bounds.
