629-3 Classic value?
Is it permissible to ask price ranges for purposes of selling?
I have a 629-3 Classic 8 3/8" barrel. No box or papers. Has S&W emblemed (Hogue?) grips. Gun is in great condition. Not a safe queen. Unknown round count.
I will be selling locally (NOLA area) so I won't be posting on this forum.
TIA

I've seen that model sell in my area for about 600-750.00 range in the condition you stated as a shooter
A lot depends on the area you sell to my area has a lot of hand gun hunters but most of them will pay a premium price for a 357 mag with a heavy barrel...I prefer the 44 mag due to better knock down energy

Good news, you have (arguably) the best revision of the 629. Bad news is the buyers looking for that heavy underlug long barrel are a pretty small crowd. These sit in pawn shops around here with $800-$900 tags on them and collect dust, so way up here in South South Alaska it would probably move at $600-$650 no problem.
I almost never see handgun hunters out here, and when I do it's almost always with a T/C or something else taking a rifle cartridge.

The 8 3/8" inch barrel is either loved or hated. I still have one so I guess I'm in the love camp.
That being said, I paid $750 for a 6.5" classic -3 (not a safe queen but still clean) with box and scope mount this summer. I thought it was on the top end price wise, but I "needed" one and it was semi-local.

Brought it to a local shop where I know most of the guys working there. They said accept no less than $1200 for it. Big price difference from what y'all are saying.
Are they wrong?

Well that about covers it, between $750 and $1,200. If you want to sell it, start at $900 to se what interest or offers you get.
Nobody is buying mine for $750, but I'd be slipping and falling to get to the vault for $1,100.

None of them were looking for one. They just work at the gun shop. They were helping price it since I'm not a S&W or big revolver guy.

To me, the 'classic' S&Ws aren't worth much.
They aren't redos of the originals.
They are poor imitations.
I wouldn't buy one unless it was at least 1/2 off original price.
Why buy one of these when the originals are readily available?

That's why I'm selling it. Because you don't like them.

There's always the 'greater fool' factor in these things.
I'd put it on one of the Internet auction sites: higher trafic than a LGS and more likely to draw a fool.

Gee I like my 629-2 with the 8 3/8" barrel, full underlug, unfluted cylinder. Just goes to show you there's a sucker born every minute. Of course I did pay $400 for mine but that was a brother price with me telling him he could sell it for more if he tried. He insisted it wasn't worth more than that. It's been a while. Maybe the prices were lower then but I don't think they were that much lower.
BTW I like that it has the long barrel. Looks like a genuine cowboy gun.

Reading comprehension much?
The OP's -3 is arguably the best of the old style Model 629's. It has the Endurance Package, making it a superior shooter to all the preceding M629's, forged hammer and trigger, and no lock. It's over 20 years old. Many consider it the best-of-the-best Model 629's.
The great irony is, you appear to be criticizing the very gun you claim to hold in most highest esteem.

Thanks for that info. While not the same barrel length it's the closest I've seen to my piece. Searches have shown auctions up to $1600 but those weren't closed and I figured they might be pipe dreams. I just don't want it to go for less than its worth.
Not being familiar with the gun I had to rely on other's comments/opinions. All I had to go on was what the guys at a local gun shop had to say. All three concurred.
Being the older style with the real hammer I figured it would command a higher worth.

For a non special edition/rare 629-3? That wouldn't sell in years out my way. It would take someone still slightly drunk, coming from the local tribal casino with pockets full of winnings, and having recently seen a Dirty Harry movie (or maybe Three Amigos) to buy that gun for $1200.
This sounds like pawn shop pricing, like the one near my house. Right now they have a 27-2 4" for $1500 and a M&P 4" for $750 (both have seen plenty of use).

The OP is referring to the 629 Classic, a full under lug barrel. Not the classic line which are "re dos" of the older guns.
I have the 629 Classics in all barrel lengths and love 'em all. The 8 3/8" tube gets a little barrel heavy after a long range session but is A great shooter. Being the dash 3 engineering change makes it even more desirable IMO. Ask for $900.
