637-2 Cracked Frame - Warranty Repair Timeline EDIT: Pistol arrived, issue closed
Discovered what looked to me to be a crack in the frame underneath the barrel. Called Smith & Wesson Customer Service on October 27 at about 9 am. Got right through, CS rep acknowledged I likely had a problem and emailed a shipping label. Packed up the revolver, attached the label, called FedEx, and the revolver left the house about 1:00 pm. According to FedEx Tracking, the revolver arrived in Springfield at 10 am on October 31. S&W sent me an email with the RA number on November 4. I waited a week, called on November 11, and was told the revolver was at the metal lab for investigation, and that usually takes a couple weeks. I called on November 23, was told that the revolver was out of metal lab and the issue was being evaluated. I waited a couple weeks, called today, was told that the cracked frame was indeed a warranty issue, and was asked what I wanted in return. A brand new 442 no lock is in the pipe, which the rep said takes about a month or two. My LGS called me about two hours later and said that S&W called him, he faxed his FFL, and everybody is waiting on the 442 to be ready and shipped.
Couldn't have asked for better service from more pleasant people. Everyone I talked with was competent, attentive, concerned, and professional.

The only fault I can find is you having to notify them instead of the other way around. Even if it was by email, which I prefer anyway.

Well, based on the time elapsed between the arrival of the revolver at S&W and the first email I got, I figure I would have received an email next week. It's a big place, with a lot of moving parts. I realize that some only have a pistol or two, and having one down is an issue. Not so much for me, and I'm not one of those guys who sends an email, calls to confirm that the email arrived, and texts to see when the response might arrive . . .

Your experience mirrors my own when I sent a 669 pistol into S&W for warranty evaluation and possible repair. Fast evaluation and repair for a large organization-and once the repair was made the return was in shipping very quickly. Plus S&W gave me any and all benefit of the doubt.

This is good to hear. If I could complain about anything it would be the long wait to have your firearms replaced or returned to you. In my opinion, it should not take that long after the inspection process to get a new one sent to your ffl. Glad they replaced it though...

So, I picked up my new 442 today. It showed up yesterday, one month from the day S&W said it was on the way, and pretty much on time, since they told me it would be a month or two. My LGS gave me a call about 3:30, but it was cold and snowy, and I had my shoes off, and I had to go out today anyway. Barrel not canted, forcing cone all good, no undo scratches, and trigger as good as a current S&W trigger is going to get. Took it home, cleaned it up, and put the CT LaserGrips on. Carried it in my Galco Tuck and Go to run some errands. Eagerly awaiting my IWB snubbyfan original . . .

You surprised me, Muss. You carried the new gun on "business" without trying it out? That's not the Muss Muggins I know! :

You're a braver man than I am. But glad S&W got you fixed up.
442s are a heck of a value when compared to the 340PD. You pay about $200/ounce to save 2-ounces and get .38/.357 versatility. Anyway, good luck with the new 442!

Let's just say I've put a lot of these together over the years. If it function checks straight through the checklist, it will fire . . .
