Default Mod 49 38 Special S/N J3348xx helping a friend value it
Updated info! Hello Friends. I'm trying to help a buddy valuate a 38 that he purchased from a local gun shop approximately 10 years ago. He seems to remember that he was told that the firearm was 20 years old at the time. The Serial # on the butt is J3348xx...stamp on the right hand side of the handle has an Circled "e" , left side of handle is A17;A4;A6
Pictures aren't great, but this is what he sent me.

I appreciate any help that you could offer!

You will have to remove those grips to see the serial#. It's stamped on the bottom of the grip frame. The other stamps you mentioned are assembler or inspector stamps that mean nothing once the firearm leaves the factory.

I just lost a 49 on gun auction web site... it is at $630.00 right now... too steep for my blood.

From the visible pin in the frame above the barrel, it is at least 34 years old.

It looks to be in pretty good condition, so $450 or more if he has the original box and contents.

J334000 would be a 1975 gun. All the other stamps are factory internal codes. I think $450-500 to a private seller, and not nearly that much from a dealer or a trade.
