Police Trade-in 640s at Centerfire
I got a email today from Centerfire Systems advertising police trade-in 640 .357s for $325. I went ahead and ordered one.
Just a FYI.
Police Trade-in S&W 640 SS 2" .357/.38 Hammerless DAO 5 Shot (Grips Vary)

Thanks JohnRippert for posting that link. I had wanted to pick up one of these ever since I let mine get gone a few years back. These look to be nice ones!

Thanks John!
I have been wanting a 640.
Haven't seen one anywhere close to that cheap!
So I just ordered one.

Ok guys... I've been looking at getting a 640 Pro someday, but would like to have a steel frame to mimic my 642 for practice. Here in San Diego, I haven't found a dealer who will do the transfer for less than $45. Would this still be a decent deal for a steel frame snub at $370? Seems like it to me but I'm not up to speed on the aftermarket. Actually, I might be out of luck anyway if it's not still on the safe gun roster.

Others may differ but I don't think that price is to high. These are quality revolvers and I don't think there will be many offers below Centerline's price. IMPO.

Just so you'll know-
Centerfire just charged me $324.99 ,
Plus $12.99 ground shipping
Plus. $10.29 credit card fee
Plus. $4.99 Hand Gun Signature Fee. Say what?
For a total of $353.26
I'll pay my local FFL holder Phil Bozza a $25 fee.
These guns were most likely issued to detectives- brass. I expect the piece to be in great shape.
The only dice roll are the grips.
I can hardly wait!
Anticipation builds!

Yep, that sounds like what I paid as well. I got lucky and found a guy that lives a couple blocks away to do transfers for $20. I don't have a problem with the "signature fee" since their shipping is low. Like The Pilgrim, anticipation. I was hoping that the heads up would give a bunch from this forum a chance at them. I doubt if Centerfire will mind if we get them all.

Is "HG0421" the Centerfire part number or the S&W part number? Google didn't help me. We have three Model 640's on the roster (besides the current 640 Pro).
640-1 SKU 103690A
640-1 SKU150784
640-3 SKU 163690
Guess I will call them tomorrow. It may be a personality disorder but I tend to like saving used guns for some reason. Kind of like a lost puppy.
Thanks for posting OP.

Thanks for the heads up. Another online retailer has had them for a while and I have been hesitating at buying at his $435 price tag for police trade ins. I'm glad I did. I just ordered mine!

Ditto! I agree, I'm like you in respect to a lot of carry but not much use.
Do you think that the armorer from where these came ( that would be interesting to know!) from would have done any trigger work?

Vospertw the picture on the website shows no lock so that should be a 640-1.

Well, rolled the dice a bit and put in a check order. So will call tomorrow to confirm since there will be time to wait for clearing anyway. Thanks all.

Pulled the trigger on one as soon as the offer message hit my inbox.
Price seems very fair to me, especially considering the prices I've seen on the secondary market.

I called to verify last night's order. The gun will probably ship tomorrow, but always possible it can make it out today. I'm just not sure what grips I want on it. I guess that will depend on the condition of the gun. Do I use hogue bantam boot grips that I already have, find a nice set of old school factory service grips, maybe so vz grips. Hmmm. We will see.

No dice; not an SKU that is authorized by CA DOJ. Hope you guys enjoy your revolvers; let us know how they look when you receive them.

You might keep checking back on the site from time to time.
I just clicked on it and it said they had 1 left in stock. I placed an order and it registered as Out of Stock after I placed my order. It showed it took the order and gave me an order #.
Not sure if someone backed out of one they ordered, if they stumbled across another or it was a glitch in the system?
I guess time will tell and I will keep my fingers crossed.

It would be interesting to know how many they had so we could see what percentage got snapped up by guys on this forum. They charged my card so I hope to see shipping info soon. I need to let my FFL know it is coming.

Hello fellas,
New member here. I was lucky enough to order one yesterday. I used to have a Ruger SP101 and loved it but I gave it to my father as a gift years ago . I've missed it ever since and when I saw the email and the deal on the 640's, I had to have one. I will post pics when I get it. Im glad to be a member:-)

Thank you John!! I'm like a little kid waiting for it to come in. These forums are great and I look forward to learning from you S&W guys. I've never owned or shot a 640 but have heard nothing but good things about them.

Had a couple of other possible deals in the hopper so I passed. Probably a bad decision but it's done. Murphy's Law is that I ordered one, the others would have also fallen into place and since I didn't get one, I'll end up with nothing. Congratulations to all of you that scored. hardcase60

Even though I attached a copy of my FFL's license when I ordered they came back with a email saying I needed to send them a copy. So I sent them a reply to that email with a copy and also sent one to the email they said takes the copies. Finally got another email saying thanks for the FFL so hopefully I will get a shipping notice soon. Not too worried since I made sure I snagged mine BEFORE I let the rest of you guys know.

Same here. Attached FFL copy to their order page link, but apparently didn't "take".
Had to e-mail it to them. They replied immediately.
