It's CBB 38xx. I put the new one and this one side by side. Not much difference in appearance. The last one has grips that have the screw in the bottom of the grip. Hogues I believe. Fast shipping by CF. I was surprised Sunday when my FFL called. He lives close to me and I picked it up st his home. Neither one of us got any tracking info like we did on the first one.

FWIW, I ordered mine on March 9 and received it on March 11. Very fast ship time.(Kentucky to North Dakota, yeah that's fast)
Another thing I've been thinking about is this. All of my 640-1's have shown up with manila hang tags that look just like the ones Kiesler has on their web site. I "think" since they peddle only to the LEO/EMS/MIL folks they are not selling like they thought. The guns have been on their web site for about a year. As a CCW/backup gun I don't think those folks for the most part like the 5 shot revolvers when they can get Glock 43's or Kahr PM/CM-9's for about the same price. The mind set I see is they like semiautomatic's because of the age brackets they tend to be in and what they are familiar with.
In the northern tier states the Centenials (40, 42, 640, 642, 442 940 etc) sell well because for several months a year they can fit in your parka and be shot from inside your pocket if need be without jamming. That's kind of a big thing that semi's don't do well. Of course your pocket might catch fire but that may be a minor problem if you have to shoot it that way.
Given that, I "think" Centerfire Systems will swing another deal with Kiesler and there might be some more show up in a month or so. That was the lag time between the last batch and first one.

I hope that happens. By then, I should be in a position to be able to buy another one.

I checked Keislers after this batch sold out and also noticed they still show stock so Centerfire could possibly get more. Seem as fast as they sell out it is probably profitable for them. I seem to recall after the second group sold out someone asked Centerfire about getting more and they were told they were trying but it didn't look probable. Then this third group showed up. But there would definitely be a finite supply so who knows how many are left out there.
And you're probably correct about them not being popular with current LEO's for backup. A 25-30 year old probably has no interest in an old fashioned revolver, they just weren't brought up or trained with them.
And mine is finally shipped and on its way.

Ordered March 9 and received an order email from Centerfire, will I get a shipping notice? A call or email from my FFL? How will I know it has arrived?

If you haven't received a shipping notice I would give them a call.
They have provided a shipping notice every time I have ordered from them.

Another possibility is to check your order history and see if the tracking numbers there at Centerfire's site . They send my tracking number with both the FedEx and Postal Service tracking page.

No way. That's always the first thing I do is install magnas. No self-respecting Centennial would be seen in public without them.
(The gun came from Centerfire with YUGE Pachmayr Grippers.)

After missing the first two releases, I finally jumped in on the last one. It showed up on Monday and with the snow storm coming, I had a chance to take a close look at it today. Came with stock S&W rubber boot grips that showed some wear, and had dried lube along the edges. I was very pleased to see that it locked up like a vault and didn't show much external wear at all. Definitely carried a lot but shot very little. Had a very smooth action but was heavier than I'd prefer. A bit of exterior polishing with a Lead-Free cloth and it looked almost new.
After popping the side plate it even showed signs of some recent oiling and wasn't gummed up at all. Blasted all of that out with some One-Shot and just left a nice wax lube coating remain. While I had it open, I couldn't resist changing the hammer spring to an 8lb one and the rebound slide spring to 12lbs. After re-assembly, my Lyman gauge showed I ended up with a very smooth 10lb 5oz. pull. Found a set of Hogue grips I had laying around and, needless to say, I'm very happy!!
Once this D%** Nor-easter leaves, I'll get to the range, but I'm betting that my 642 just took a backseat in the rotation.

Very nice. Looks like you got a good one.
So far it looks like all of them in this batch have the newer style cylinder release.

Mine showed up today, the one I got last time CDM was MIM parts, this one (CBB2009) has forged internals and the best trigger of all my J's.
A lot of carry wear and looks to have been dropped on the front sight, rust on the trigger and enough lint, goo, and yuck to build a cop. Had S&W three finger synthetic grips.

Thank you!
I did use scotchbrite pads. I found a scotchbrite pad for metal at home depot; I abraded it on another surface to soften it up some and then used it on the 640 followed by a blue scotchbrite pad and then a light polish with Flitz.

Nice find, man. I ordered a 640 from Centerfire on 3/15. I got one of the last two available! Seat of my pants! They've already shipped and it should arrive at my FFL on 3/17. Quite excited about such a good price on what appears to be a solid lot of these guns.

Just picked up mine too. Forged trigger, serial #CBB19XX. A little dirty but in real nice shape. Doesn't look like it was hardly fired. To say I'm happy would be an understatement. These are an exceptional deal. Gonna try to get it cleaned up and polished some in the next couple of days.
Right out of the box,

Got mine today, ordered 9th, shipped 14th and received 17th. A couple dings too deep to rub out, a little cruddy inside but I'm happy with it. I'll clean it up and take it to the range hopefully next week. I took the side plate off, not sure how everything comes apart but I'll search for a youtube video to help me out.

Where the carbon was cooked on by the powder burn I had to use a brass brush for a few minutes. Everything else was a toothbrush. I used a brass brash in the charge holes of the cylinder and the barrel.
One thing I really like about Ed's Red is that once you do a detail strip\clean\lube, it is easy as can be to clean up the next time.
Smooooooth trigger, just like the first one.

Took a pic of both this morning. If I was living out in the country I might try something like walking outside with one in each hand, popping off 10 rounds of 158gr .357's at a paint can, and seeing if my hand's still work.

For the price and condition of these cop trade in guns they are one heck of a great buy IMO.

I received the last order from Numrich and installed the steel main spring swivel and springs from Wolff in the latest revolver. With the trigger job it is very nice.
And with all due respect to the Jarheads, a variation of the Rifleman's Creed kept going around in my head:
"This is my 640. There are many like it but this one is mine. My 640 is my best friend..."
It is strange how that stuff happens. I am so grateful and honored to be an American and so blessed to be able to own these tools.
I really am.

I installed the steel spring swivel in mine today too. Which rebound spring did you go with? I've got a Wolff kit sitting here but I think I'm gonna hit the range a couple of times before I change anything. My trigger is really smooth and I'm not sure I want to mess with it yet.

I'm not a gunsmith. This has worked on my guns and I don't recommend you do my mods without due diligence.
I use the 14 pound rebound spring and the 8 pound hammer spring. Once the lockwork has been smoothed they really make a difference.
Also as an informational video here is a You Tube vid of a trigger job done by a gunsmith. It will educate you as to what they do. In this case a Dremel is not your friend:

That's great. Glad to hear it.
I tried to talk my 28 year old son into one of these when they were available but he likes his plastic toys. Or maybe he knows someday mine will be his.

I was considering doing a trigger spring job on mine but I just wonder if it would really make a noticeable difference. The one video I watched said the spring kit only gained maybe a pound lighter difference. Would a pound really be noticed?
My trigger action actually isn't bad and I wonder if it has had a spring job done on it. The trigger action is smooth and not much heavier than my LCR as it is.
I have shot my 640-1 quite a bit with no misfires or any problems.

The reduction is noticeable. And the cost of the springs is small. Having said that, you might want to try it out and see if you like it. Since you mechanically haven't done anything to the revolver you can put it back the way it was if you're not happy. A J frame shooters pak from Wolff is less than $20.00 shipped.

Got mine cleaned up, took the side plate off and hit it with WD40 to loosen the old lube, next is brake cleaner then some air to blow any old crud out. Not sure where to put some new oil, any suggestions? This is my first attempt going inside a revolver.
Old grips are serviceable but I want to put something new on. Also I may change the main spring to something lighter.

Some purists say no lube.
For 30+ years I have good results with 1 drop each on:
Hammer pin
Trigger pin
Rebound slide
Yoke (frame and cylinder)

Centerfire still out of 640's.So I called Kiesler police supply. They still had some but 50.00 more than Centerfire.Still the best price on A no lock 640 or any 640 for that matter.Picked it up today might be the cleanest least used police gun I have ever bought. Two chambers have very faint burn rings.Barrel and rest of gun immaculate.Whoever was issued this weapon did not carry it.After some range time I will change that. And to all of you on this thread who got me wanting a 640 so bad.Thank You.My wife says it is not a hobby but a addiction.

Let's see, one 640-1 appendix carry, one on the hip, and I gotta find a good way to carry the Model 36 also. Maybe a left hand appendix holster. Then I can be "Three Gun John".

I have a couple of these. I asked you guys about having one cut for 9MM. I was wondering if I did, would it still shoot .38 and or .357. Probably a dumb ?, but I'll ask it anyway I was told Pinnacle would do the work for me. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

If it was done correctly I don't see why it would not fire 38 and 357. Same deal as the 45 acp/colt cylinders cut for moon clips. But, I don't know how well it would shoot with a 356 bullet jumping almost 1/2" of .379 chamber before entering a 357 throat, then hitting the forcing cone. Seems that there would be lots of opportunity for bullet to get a bit cocked and for pressure to blow by the bullet while it was still inside the longer 357 chamber area.
38 in 357 and 44 specials in 44 mags do good at this but they only have a .10 jump from case to throat and most of the bullet is still in the case while that is happening. Not so a 9mm in a 357 chamber. Even 45 acps suffer from this a bit when fired in 45 colt chambers and the 45acp has a longer case and bullet than a 9mm and the 45 bullet should have entered the throat a bit more than a 9mm/357 stup before completely leaving the case mouth. Less time for things to go wrong and pressure to escape.
In other word it would work. Question is just how well???
Probably work better in a 38 cylinder. But, I am sure its been done with a 357, mostly likely with varying results.

Thank you Steelslaver, appreciate the info. I was just wondering if it was feasible. Don't shoot many 357s anyway.as my arthritic hands won't allow it! I have an awful aversion to pain. lol
