Default Model 10 Hammer Spring

Was cleaning a friends M10 today and noticed the hammer spring was ineffective. It's an easy inexpensive fix but do you see that often? The firing pin is just flopping, no tension.
Did it break? Lose its coil strength?

It may be junked up and a blast with a good solvent may loosen it up, or it may not have one at all. I have heard it really doesn't need one to operate effectively. You would also need a hammer nose pin and a correct size punch to stake it after the replacement,

Most .38 Spl. K-frames, this includes Model 10s especially, do not have the hammer nose spring. This was typically used mostly on .357 Magnum caliber revolvers such as the Models 19 and 66. They are sometimes found on the .38s, but the absence of the hammer nose spring is perfectly normal.

The fact that the hammer nose " ....is just flopping, no tension." is adequate proof in itself that it is not "junked up"! Don't worry about it.
