686-4 snub
So I know that pre-lock new in box or LNIB guns go for quite a bit these days but what would you give for a LNIB 686-4 snub? I am planning on picking one up for $750. Good price? High? What do you all think?

I am Cheap, that being said the -4 is the most desirable of the 686 dashes, I love the snub nose, I would pay $750 for that revolver, if I didn't have a 2 1/2" -3 already. Go ahead pull the trigger on that one.

To me anytime you can get a pre-lock pre-mim lnib for around the same price as a new production one I think it's definitely a good buy.

That's a pretty good price for a LNIB -4! Buy it!

Yes, if it's mechanically sound that is a good price. I bought two a year ago for about $850 each. I also saw a couple of knuckleheads get in a bidding war on GB a while back over one. I believe the "winner" paid $1,850 or something like that. But that is just an example of how crazy it can get. I am referring to the 686-4+, seven shot version. But even if it is a 6 shot, you're safe at $750.

I love the saying we see here often; you're not paying too much, you're just paying too early! Actually I don't think that applies here as that's probably about right for "these days". Maybe a tough pill to swallow for those of us who remember being able to buy lightly used 19/66 snubs for $350, but the market is what it is. At that price you might be justified walking away but if you changed your mind and went back to the store it'd likely be gone.

Hello, I agree about the -4, that seems to be the going price lately. I have a 4" no dash with M and a -4 2 1/2". I got it several months ago at a great price (550) from a friend, and yes it came with those amazing grips. And now he is a very good friend after the sale!

Lucked into a 686-4 2 1/2" couple weeks ago for $650 out the door. Just happened to show up minutes after it was traded in. Like new condition but no box or papers. Hard to come by in these parts so $750 probably not to far out of line......they were going to put it in the display case for $800 (high in my opinion).

At a recent gun show the asking prices I saw for 2.5" 6 shot 686-4(3) in excellent condition without boxes were in the $800 to $900 range on Sat morning and by Sunday afternoon they were all gone.

Shops around here treat 1980s/90s Smith 357s like dead raccoons at least when I tried to trade. Have a very nice condition 686-4 seven shot with 2.5" barrel and they offered $400 for it. No thanks.
I know , I know , I am better off selling myself , just thought it was worth more even with trading. Took a 66-1 with a 4" barrel to another shop and was actually offered more at $450. Around here there is probably no way I could get $750 for mine even selling outright , then again the market is different in other parts of the country.

If you're seriously in the market, you should probably buy it. $700 to $800 seems to be the market for pre-lock 686's these days and the snubs carry a premium anyway.
For me it's always a little bit of a let down when "the hunt" is over.

I bought my 686-1 snub with box for $600 about 5 years ago. Thought it was kind of a lot back then but I would do it all over again. I love that gun.

I bought my 2 1/2" 686-4 about 4 years ago for $500. No box or papers but the seller threw in the holster and two speed loaders. The gun was in good condition but showed a couple marks from handling. I quickly realized what a gem the 686-4 snubby is and the gun has become my favorite shooter.
