I just got my 640-1 from Centerfiresystems It has a solid trigger, My question is the trigger forged, and does it have forged internals? It is pretty beat up, but should clean up semi well. Looks like they were piled on top of each other.

They are forged. I bought one late last year from another vendor that was an early one (1996) with forged, flash chromed internals. The 640-1's were introduced in 1995 and were the first of the ".357 magnum" J-frames. What is your ser# prefix?

The Centerfire examples I've seen range from really good condition to awful. (mine was awful) The one I bought from Centerfire has MIM internals that had received a regular bath of WD-40. Fortunately, the liquid hadn't turned solid as yet and a little soaking removed most all the crud.

My serial number is BUC 0948. It did clean up fairly well, however there are still some scrapes. Not sure how to get those out. Any suggestions appreciated.

Many here on the forum use 3M brand ScotchBrite pads for removing scratches and blending. Other options include very fine wet/dry sandpapers, and/or a carding wheel on a buffer or drill press. Be sure to use caution around sharp edges that need to be preserved, like the cylinder stop slots, for instance. Also remember to clean off any abraisive powder, debris, or grit that may come off during the cleaning process. This material can cause damage to internals.

The pads are usually available at home centers.

Here's an incomplete list of different "grits" available.....

7445 - White pad, called Light Duty Cleansing - (1000) 1200-1500 grit
7448 - Light Grey, called Ultra Fine Hand - (600-800) 800 grit.
6448 - Green (?), called Light Duty Hand Pad - (600) 600 grit
7447 - Maroon pad, called General Purpose Hand - (320-400) 320 grit
6444 - Brown pad, called Extra Duty Hand - (280-320) 240 grit
7446 - Dark Grey pad, called Blending Pad (180-220) 150 grit
7440 - Tan pad, called Heavy Duty Hand Pad - (120-150) 60(?)
Blue Scotch-Brite is considered to be about 1000 grit.
