Default 627 PC or 629?

Been looking into buying a PC revolver. Been looking at the 627 5" for a little over 1K. I almost bought it when I ran across a sale for a NIB 629 V-Comp 4" for the same price. The 629 V-Comp typically lists for $200 more and would appear to be the better deal. Should I ditch the 627 for the 629?

It all depends on what you want, IMO. Both are great guns. I have the 4" 627 Pro and it's a really fun gun to shoot. And having 8 rounds in the cylinder is neat too. But a 44 Mag is in another league, power-wise, from the 357 Mag. And another thing to consider too is ammo costs. Do you reload? If not, it will be more expensive buying factory 44 Mag ammo as compared to 357 Mag. So your per round costs will be higher for the 44 Mag, but not double the cost or anything like that. And the 44 Mag has a higher amount of recoil than 357 Mag too.

Of course it is up to you to decide. I'm just throwing a few thoughts out for you to ponder and maybe help you make your decision. I'm sure that either way you go you will get a revolver that will give you a lifetime of fun at the range or hunting.

It really won't matter, you'll end up with both anyway.

Yup. I bought both. If I had to pick one, it would be the 627 PC.

Got to handle both the other day. Both are very nice. However the 627 trigger was sooooo smooth! The 629 was smooth also but noticeably heavier. I think in the end it's going to be the 627. Along with the action, I really like the wood presentation grips and the 8 shot cylinder

JayH, either way I know you will enjoy yourself with your new purchase. But I am partial to my 627 Pro too and since I got it last April it has made the most range trips of all my guns. I did have some light strike issues when I first got it, but changed out the OEM mainspring with a Wollf regular strength mainspring along with a 12 lb rebound slide spring and the trigger is as nice as any of my older S&W revolvers. I don't regret my purchase one little bit.

I recently purchased a 627 PC and have been pleasedl. Its my 1st S&W revolver, added some special sauce in the form of Wilson Combat spring kit, Hogue products & optics for my aging eyes. Only issue I'm having is keeping ammo available... burned through it quickly.
