624 3 inch LH
Recently, I was fortunate enough to purchase a very nice 3" 624 (no easy feat in Ca.). I contacted Earl Minot at Lew Hortons and confirmed it was one of their original order guns shipped to them in May 1985. He was kind enough to send a letter of authenticity and a copy of the original advertisement showing the S&W 624 specific holster. A compassionate Forum member sold me a like new holster in original packaging for the 624 (Thanks Bill). I'm aware of the recall controversy. This gun, with S/N AHSxxxx, falls within the recall range - Don't care. I reload, and tend to underload my .44 Specials. I have .44 Magnums for the heavier stuff.

Sounds identical to my story. Got mine just a couple months ago, got the letter from Lew Horton, and a member here sold me a gently used holster.
I really haven't looked into the recall. Mine is a little later, an ALUxxxx serial. I do want to try some of the heavier loads e.g. 250gr @ 900fps.

Beautiful, not finding one of those unobtainable 624 is why I tried a new 44 Bulldog. I love 44spl cast and reload. The next best thing I have to your work of art is a 629-4 3" RB. My next purchase will probably be the 69 stubby, can't wait!!

Congrats on a really nice six shooter! 44 spl is a great cartridge, 'specially in a solid N frame. Mine is at the top of the list of my favorites.

I'm actually keeping my eyes peeled for a deal on one to pop up .
My son was born 6/24..... I'd like to make a sentimental gift out of it

I'm trying to remember, the reason for the recall. Wasn't it something like the chambers were cut for 44Mag instead of 44 Special?
I have it's blued counterpart, the 24-3, and with the right holster is fun to carry.

Those 3" 624s are looking good with the combat grips! Wow!
I have a couple of the M24-3 (blued) LH specials chambered in .44 Special.
These are all very special revolvers in my opinion.
Chambered for one of my all-time favorite cartridges, and they are so much fun to shoot.
They will likely never be made again in that configuration.
Hang on to 'em, fellahs!

I had a blue one and sold it years ago. Also had a 4" that had been worked over by one of the best Python tuners in the business. I let it go too and which I had it back now. I do have a 696 and a 4" bright blue, 1950 Target. I love the .44 spec.

3S16 is very wise in my opinion to NOT send his 624 to the factory. The test(s) S&W performs on these guns is cloaked in mythology. I believe the only test the factory performs is to determine if the chambers are 44 Magnum depth. If the gun doesn't pass, they keep it!! They apparently offer a substitute gun.
Do your own chamber check and disclose your findings to whomever gets this gun from you. I have 7 624s of various barrel lengths of which 4 have the red 'C' stamped on the cardboard box. I will never send a 624 to the factory.

So I emailed LH after reading this thread. Got a reply from Mr. Minot that my 624 3 inch is also a LH release. He is going to send me the certs also. How cool is that!
Its the top left revolver. I replaced the combats with a set from Spegels, the combats are hiding safe..

Another LH version (confirmed by Earl), though the finish on the grips isn't as nice as the rest shown.
