Got my 986PC snubby....a little disappointed in the condition of a new gun
I have been waiting a long time for this gun. It's built on a 686 frame and is basically a 686 Performance Center model with a titanium 9mm cylinder. Yes it uses moon clips. I changed out the factory Altamont grips for a set of checkered finger groove Hogue grips. The factory grips are a bit ridiculous in both look and feel if you ask me. The gun is a lot lighter then it looks. I was a little disappointed by the shape of the gun when I got it; a few noticeable scratches and scuffs. It came straight from a distributor this way. S&W performance center isn't what it once was. At least it has a great trigger.
I shot 100 rounds and it's a nice accurate gun. I need to order a bunch more moon clips before I really put some serious range time in.
With my other 9mm revolver
With one of my other purchases this week
My first 2 cylinders at 10 yards double action unsupported
Now for the disappointment
I guess I could have not accepted the gun but I waited 2 weeks and didn't want to wait again. Plus it has a really good action and trigger. I will likely call S&W and see what they say

If I had one that shoots that good ---it would never leave my possession.
Nice gun-cherish it.

Sucks about the condition of your PC986. The one I picked up a month ago was flawless in both fit and finish. I agree about the wood factory grips. I find them to be a tad slippery for my taste. I have been kicking around the idea of ordering Smith L frame rubber grips.

If you want wood grips that are well "gripy" I would get Hogues. The checkering is much more aggressive then Altamonts.

I like almost no OEM grips except rubber ones on new guns. I consider them something just fastened on simply to get the gun "out the door." Guess my eyes are almost gone: hadda look awful hard to see the impefections.
Seems each new gun is a law unto itself, even the PC models. Have bought 5 PC J-frames of late: 2 are superb, 1 very good, and 2... well, they're OK, but should be better. Nothing to send back.

P.S. Visited my LGS trying to decide between a Glock 43 and a Ruger LCP... and walked out with a 637 PC snub. Didn''t want someone else to get it. I'm funny like that.

Glad you received your 986 PC, sorry to hear about the couple of flawed areas. I got mine several weeks back, and luckily it was flawless as far as I can see.
I actually bought 4 PC guns over the last month or so, including the 986 PC. I actually did a You Tube video on them, mostly about the 986 PC, but also a bit about the others and Quality of them. Hope you enjoy it.
Here is the video if you would like to take a look, not super professional, but non the less a video ! You can look at here or click on the header and go to full You Tube

While I won't dispute that some guns leave the factory in less than 'new' condition, I have to wonder how many are marked up by careless employees at distributors or gun shops. Nevertheless, it's a nice looking gun and an obvious performer.

Nice action and accurate. Unless it is going to be a safe queen, overlook minor stuff and shoot the snot of it.

S&W will fix it
I bought a 627PC earlier this year and had to send it back to the factory to fix some cosmetic issues and occasional light primer strikes. I found S&W customer service to be very easy to work with. They sent me a shipping label and after about a month, I got it back with all the issues corrected. I couldn't be happier.

The frosted/bead blast/satin finish S&W uses on some of their guns is fragile and easily marked up compared to the brushed stainless they use on most of their stainless steel guns.

If you would, please post the trigger weight. I'd like to compare it with my 986 s inch. Thanks
