"Super Tuned" vs Talo vs Performance Ctr J Frames?
Guys, lately I have noticed several permutations all with different price points. 442 Super Tuned, Talos and lastly performance center "enhanced action" etc.
What is the difference. Frustrating cause the super tuned ones don't look so outwardly, no PC markings. Is one more tuned or enhanced than the other? I have been unable to compare side by side. Called C&S and they were unaware of "supertuned" versions.
Also, do the pro series moon clip version have enhanced actions?
Way confused.
Thank for your insight gang,
Dave

The factory "action work" on my Model 442-1 moon clip revolver purchased a couple of years ago, cat#178041, consisted of a Wolff mainspring & rebound spring, long ratchets....and a canted barrel.
The Performance Center J-frame guns (so called "enhanced action") I have worked on within the last three or four years have similar Wolff spring changes. No other internal modifications, like stoning or polishing for instance, or other upgrades over the stock models that I have observed. I'm not familiar with the "super tuned" actions you mention.
My experience over the years is that the revolvers are sort of like us.....they are not made with a cookie-cutter, and all have their own personalities. Consequently, some are more likable than others.

In case anyone noticed, I have a radar unit that hones me in on J-frame threads. Speaking solely about PC Js, and having bought 5 in the past few years, I find the differences/improvements seem to depend on the individual gun.
While posters have criticized the 637 PC Wyatt for it's logos on bbl and frame, the DA (it is DAO) is incredibly smooth. I have not analyzed why. I recently bought a "standard" DA 637 PC: it is a nice gun but I really cannot detect the difference from a regular production 637. The grip is different.
Last spring, I bought 2 442 PC "pinto" models commissioned by Chattanooga Shooting Supplies. One is very "OK." The other is merely OK: the rebound slide required polishing where it bore against the frame, and the sideplate screws loosen after 25-30 rounds. Maybe I'll have my 'smith Loc-tite them, but this should not be necessary. Cannot distinguish between their DA and that of 642s I own.
Seems to be a gamble more than a label in regards to the quality of the individual gun.

Talo editions have no performance enhancements.

Hey, I appreciate it guys. Yeah I have notice some variation. In my new 438 it has a sweet trigger, it actually feels like it has a lighter mainspring in it from the factory. My older 649-1 is waaaayyyy heavier, though I haven't measured them.
It really frustrated me when the customer service rep couldn't give me any insight. Maybe I will try the performance center.

That also can depend on the individual! In 2001, I was able to speak to a person in the engineering section who explained in detail the new 360Sc to a concerned LEO. Several years ago, I asked a question about another revolver, and got the reply: "That's the way they make them." Seriously.

The biggest difference is price.
From what I have been reading on this forum, nothing seems to indicate a higher level of build quality between regular and 'PC' models. I suspect that their PC editions are mainly marketing hype, and it works quite well. As was mentioned in this thread, it appears Wolf springs are what they call tuning nowadays. The average Joe can replace springs.
I would buy a regular model and pay someone else to do an action job or tuning that you want. That way it would be actually 'tuned' and probably leagues beyond what the factory would ever do for you.

Or start with a Talo, if it has some features you like over the standard model.

I have been contemplating ordering a PC642 SKU#10186. Smiths Website indicates the action has been enhanced by the Performance Center. It would be indeed disappointing if all they did to tune the action is a spring kit that I can order and install myself.
