My 360J came missing something
It doesn't have the flame cutting shield. Should I do anything about it? I bought it new.

I believe it did not come with one; the .357 Sc J frames do.

Mine has it, so I think it should be there. I would request a label from S&W and FedEx it to them.

Will it matter that I have a Wolff trigger return spring in it? Never sent them a modified gun. I know if you send Glock a modified gun they will return it to factory specs.

Ah, I see the notch in the forward top strap for it...
You may want to call customer service before sending it back regarding the trigger modification.

I noticed the picture in Stopsign's post and noticed the serial number below the cylinder release. When did S&W start putting the serial number on the side of the frame visible to anyone that might take note? I prefer the discreet placement on the bottom of the grip frame inside the frame opposite the cylinder yoke. Sadly, none of my Smith's have a serial number between the barrel and extractor rod.

Before you do anything, Call S&W with your serial number in hand and ask them your question.
IF they want the gun back I would first return the gun to spec by removing and replacing any aftermarket parts without buggering up any screws on the side plate.

In answer to the serial number placement, the gun is a foreign (Japanese) PD contract overrun gun.

If the screw hole is threaded, all you'll need is the screw and the shield. Ask S&W to send you those two things. Then you won't have to send it back.

That could explain the missing shield. Might not have been part of the contract . . .

No, they all have the shield. This is the first time I have seen one without. The shield is held in by tension, there is no screw. Mine was very loose out of the box. I removed it all the way by sliding it out from left to right. I used a knife and widened the angle of the fold just a bit. I slid it back in and now it is tight.

I believe all 360J's have the same serial number placement and shield. I doubt most were ever part of any Japanese contract. They seem to be produced on a regular basis.

I don't know how many the Japanese ordered, but according to the OP, it was at least one more than they needed . . .
