I was in my local LGS this morning and they had a model 18-6 in the case, like new in the box with papers and the cleaning kit. I came home to research it and can't really find out much about it.

It's a 4" barrel, full underlug .22lr with what look like factory fingertip stocks.

Is this something unique? Priced at $750 seems a bit high to me but it really does look new in the box fresh.

The blued rimfire revolvers with the full underlug are rare and highly sought by collectors and shooters. In fact, ANY Model 18 in mint condition with box is worth at least $750. The stocks alone may be worth $200+.

You may want to consider acquiring this one.

The SW 4th shows 18-5, 18-6 "Not found." If it's legit, I'd run by Meltzers and snatch it up. Joe

From your description, and presuming it has no internal lock, that is a model 17-6 and about $300-400 underpriced. This is what is known as a hint...

Yup, that's the one I found.

Ok, so based on everyone' comments I was at the store this morning when it opened. It's now mine pending approval from the state and the passage of time - damn NJ permitting and one-gun-a-month BS.

Here's the info off the box:

As shown it's a 17-6. The S&W rollmark on the barrel is colored orange/gold and there is a slight turn ring but it doesn't look like it was ever fired. No internal lock. Box, all papers and the unopened tool kit included. Even negotiated the price down a bit.

Can anyone tell me when it was made? I'm guessing 1990...

I would say 1989. I think you got a good deal.

If you end up not liking it (not really likely) you would be able to sell it here on the board in a NJ minute. Good purchase, great gun

The gold coloring was added on by a previous owner, easy to do and remove.

In this era, the Special Order code indicated the day it was ready to ship, likely close to the sales/ship date. 9 indicates 1989 and 163 is the day of that year, or June 12.

Cries of "thief!" for getting it for under $750 to follow . We need a range report after you are able to pick it up.

Great buy!

Was finally able to pick this up from the LGS after OGAM impound.

It's in better shape than I remember. The only mark is a hint of a turn line. Can't wait to shoot it! Included original box, papers and tools.

One just like that sold for $1150 on gunbroker. You made a great deal, don't think twice about it.

Really a great deal on a great revolver. Just remember that we are waiting on a range report.

There are 2 varients, early ones without the underlug and the later full underlug that you have,
They were offered in 3 barrel lengths, 4", 6" and 8 3/8" the latter being less commonly found.
