Default M681 NYSP

Picked up this fine M681 with a AAC serial number and turns out to be one of 500 ordered on June 18, 1981 for the New York State Police. It is in great shape for being a service revolver. It was at a local gun show and cost me $490 which I thought was a great deal. I notice in the New SCSW that the price shown is $440 much less than a M581. It came with Pach's and I had this spare book matched Goncolo Alves target grip which look fantastic on there.

If you are familiar with these NYSP revolvers, how rare are they to find? Are they worth more than a non marked gun?

I believe they were the last revolver issued prior to transitioning to the glock 17 in about 1988 or so.

Default I have this one...

It had been shot quite a bit. I cut it down to proper size & added a ball detent to keep it locked up good. I don't know how many there are.

The NYSP 681 was in service with that agency during 1981-1990. There were far more than 500 purchased and marked NYSP. More like several thousand.

N.Y.S.P. markings are worth no premium to me. Some people tend to stay away from LEO guns. I have only had 2 in the past. Model 10-8, and a Beretta 96 (rough looking) Both functioned well. Nice 681, & price! Bob
