Default Date of 586

Good evening all, I am new to this forum and I am trying to find whatever information I can on a Mod 586 SN AAA7527. Also, the numbers A21 and 94452 are stamped on it.

Welcome to the forum.

Your 586 dates to roughly late 1980 to early 1981.
I have a 586 with a S/N very close to yours that I dated to February 1981.
If yours has the original wood grips on it, if you remove them and look on the inside of them you may be able to find a month & year ink-stamped on one of them. That may help you with an approx. date.

The other numbers were assembly numbers from when they built your gun and don't mean anything outside the factory.

There is an open recall on your gun. It is not a big deal and only some guns actually had any trouble. Some of the early 586s would lock up while shooting magnum loads that had softer primers. The firing pin had a small likelihood of getting bound up in a primer and locking the gun up.

The factory installs a different hammer nose (firing pin) and bushing.
There is still a lot of debate about whether to automatically send in your gun for the modification. Some people think you should just have it done, some people say to shoot the gun and see how it goes.
To check your gun, look under the cylinder yoke on the frame of the gun, not the yoke itself. The S/N is on top and the model number is on the bottom. If your gun has had the modification, there will be a letter "M" stamped between the S/N & model number.

I've got one with a very close number;I didn't have the modification made and never repeat never experienced a misfire with it using either .38 or full.375 loads in it(full being 158+gr bullets at 1300fps chronoed). And it has shot thousands of loads.
This being said so that you don't feel bad if you decide not to have the call in modification made. One detail though;if your gun is going to be used for sd,you might reconsider and have the modification done. It's all up to you.

Thanks for the info. No I do not plan on carrying this for SD with the 6" barrel I find it a little on the large side. I was just curious as I couldn't remember exactly when I purchased it. For DD I have an M&P Shield in 45 (Got too used to the 45 in the military).
