Default Coloreds only

From the first time I saw one..I had to have one.
I've seen an ocean of blued guns....vaults of nickels...and sinkloads of stainless..but never a color cased.
S&W decided to do a special run of them on their Heritage series and they had the pros at Turnbull mfg. work their rainbow magic. Show off you color cased revolvers!
I'll start it off with my newly acquired 15-8 Combat Masterpiece .38 Special..dressed in giraffe bone stocks..and William Henry blue spruce for company. Range report to follow..

I never liked the 15 because it was not a 19. But this 15 is beautiful, and...I like it!

Model 22 of 1917. Classic series. People either love them or hate them.

I like it. It's too purdy to shoot, so one would spend the rest of it's life in my safe. I do like them stocks thought. Guess I'm gonna have to go giraffe hunting.

That stuff hurts my eyes, except on Colt SAA revolvers.

But a stainless .44 or .45 without The Lock would appeal.

I love the case coloring as it reminds me of the color headers turn on a well tuned car or motorcycle. It also reminds me of the color of a torch flame. And no two case colored revolvers are the same.Ya seen one stainless,ya seen em all. Every case colored is a little different! Must be the mechanical side of me. Don't get me wrong..I love blued, nickel and stainless finishes..but now I've added another flavor.. Here is a 15-9 McGivern model:

Some custom knifemakers use giraffe bone for handles.

Never heard from anyone what giraffe meat is like.

I think it's illegal to hunt giraffe. You probably have to scavenge the bones after lions leave a kill or just find the bones on the savannah.

I think you can still use mammoth or mastodon ivory. Not even radicals like PETA try to convince people that those species are endangered.

When one just isn't enough. Here's another .45..a 25-12. Shot this one already. Dead nuts on target. These all have very nice stock triggers! Maybe because they came from the Performance Center? The new S&W stuff really isn't as bad as some people say...

Congratulations on a great looking revolver.

I too love the Heritage series revolvers. Even the ones that are not Color Case Hardened.

25s on the left, 17s on the right

4" Model 15

6" Model 15

Probably the best nickel S&W has done in years

All 3 finishes of the McGivern Special

Some more 25s

The great thing is that Turnbull stamped all of the frames that he did for Smith and Wesson. The more recent Color Case Hardened revolvers that the Factory offered are done by someone else and the finish is not as durable as the Heritage series

colt_saa, what is your McGiverns series number? I also have the 3 finish set..mine is group #31. They are an interesting collection and I was glad to find them, and at a reasonable price! I was only after the case colored model, until I came across a complete set. It made little sense to me to split up the family, especially since the nickel and blued models were also very attractive. Your display looks nice. I am planning a vertical clear case with 3 levels and copies of his books and photos of his deeds. Ed McGivern was quite the shootist and sure enjoyed his S&W's! I actually bought two 25-12s case coloreds as they were sequentially numbered..so brothers. One I will shoot..the other..keep in reserve.

When I installed the Giraffe bone grips on the 15-8 I noticed the Turnbull finish stamp on the frame. Pretty cool. Since prices seem to be reasonable on these I will be buying others. I have room for more colored refugees..
