Default Why no S&W logo on the frame of model 657

I recently looked at a S&W model 657-3 that DID NOT have the S&W logo stamped on the frame of either side. I have seen the logo stamped on either side of model 657 but this is the first one I saw without a stamp at all. Is this a rare factory error or something common I just have not seen. Thanks for your opinion.

How do you know for sure that it is a S&W?

If it has the model number 657-3 marked in the yoke area, it is most likely a S&W. My guess is that the logo was buffed off at some point. Particularly if the revolver now has a high polish finish.

Or it was simple operator's error in the factory; the lunch hour/break time came and the operator just lost concentration and put the untouched frame in the finished box and left his/her station. By the time he/she returned that box of frames had been picked up by the 'materials mover' and taken to the next work station. ....... It is really no big deal and IMHO doesn't affect the value either up or down. .....

You might call S&W and see if they wouldn't take your handgun in and do that little job. .........

It's also possible it was an overrun from a group of frames intended for a custom logo order. (some PD, Sheriff's Association, any number of groups). Sometimes the S&W logo was shifted or moved to the other side in order to allow other logos to be added. It's very possible one of these could be shipped without the S&W roll mark.

Default No S&W logo, trademark on 657

Thanks for the reply's. Some more information: the gun has a satin finish so it was not buffed or polished and looks as new, original. Yes it is a S&W. One side of the barrel marked Smith & Wesson and the other side 41 Magnum plus frame has the normal S&W info but no logo or trademark. It is also with the original box and all. I just thought it was unusual not to have the S&W trademark or logo on either side of the frame. This is probably just one that slipped out unless we can find a better reason.

Default No S&W trademark on 657 pictures

I was able to look at the gun I started this thread about and take a couple pictures. As you can see no trademark stamp on either side. Thanks.
