Default 629-1

looks like a lew horton, has three inch barrel, red insert front sight, white outline rear, round butt fingergrip stocks and is a 629-1
what i couldn't find is the serial number in the smith and wesson book.
think made 86-87 but serial is BAN 06xx
Any body see that BAN prefix before?

I've seen the BAN prefix before. Your gun likley shipped in....

June or July of 1988.

If you call Lew Horton with the s/n they will tell you. Send a nice letter, too.

This is my dash 1 with an ANC-508x serial number shipped in 85. Not a Lew Horton.

I sent an email to horton, but no response yet, it would appear to me a production run of about 8000, some horton, some not. I looked in the smith & wesson book 3rd edition, but could not find that prefix, which tells me the book doesn't have everything.

My 3" has a BEE serial number and was made in Sept. of '89. This was a different run that had lugged barrel and unfluted cylinders. You are probably correct on your assumption of the 8K production run during '86/'87.
