Default Decided to go 'old school' with a new 686

Went to the LGS today and checked out some new L-frames.

Saw a 686P that was out of time (slow). There was another in the back, and that one was so-so. In the display cas I Saw a new 686 6-shot with 4 inch barrel and timing, endshake, lockup, barrel index, b/c gap on that one all looked very good. The finish is a little shoddy in places, but I can live with it.

Decided to go home with this 6 shot 686-6. For some reason I like the 6 shot cylinder a little better. Wood stocks will be on the way.

Enjoy her! All 686's, whether 6 or 7 shot or whatever barrel length you decide are great!

Looking forward to seeing again when you get your Wood stocks.

Good choice !!! I had one just like it and I loved it. They are "great shooters. Load them light, load them heavy, they will take a beating and keep on ticking. Have fun and be safe.

Nice choice. For me the 4" balances best. Mines a plus but honestly, if you can't do it with 6, another ain't gonna help.

The trigger pull in DA on this one is smooth. One thing is still true: S&W still knows how to make a smooth DA pull.

My 686 would be the last gun to go out of my collection, next to my third gen.

My 686 , 4" belonged to a retired LEO . He was from Florida , was in " off shore boat patrol " for Drug Enforcement . It needed a little work when I got it , a call to the factory got the parts I needed to correct the problem . I have kept it all these years . I also have a 681 ( fixed sight ) version that I believe was used by the Aussies . Both very very accurate , both keepers.
