Default Found s 2" 64 NY-1

It's in great shape (only a few scratches on the cylinder), and the pawn shop is asking 600. I know that a 4" NY-1 is generally worth less than that, but is a 2" worth the price?

Is it marked NY-1 on it?

Some of the 2 inch 64's with the DAO factory bobbed hammers are actually Brinks trade ins.

A couple years ago the Brinks trade ins you could find at a fairly decent price. I think I paid around $300 for mine.

Great revolver but I think the actual NY-1's might bring a bit higher premium but I am not an expert by any means.

At $600 I would buy it if it were in exc condition, but wouldn't sell mine for that. They didn't make a heckuva lot of them.

I have the original box also.

Forum member NCBeagle just purchased one, maybe he'll see this and chime in.

The standard reference states there were 478 known 2" NY-1 stamped model 64s, with the understanding that well over twice that number of the production run are of unknown barrel length. The price is fair, especially if you want one and don't know how long it will be before you see another.

Yes sir. Picked mine up a few weeks ago in an online auction. Seller was a small gun shop in NY. It's funny, the revolver was not listed as a NY-1, only as a 64-4. Of course, I could see the "NY-1" in the photos. I spoke with the shop owner and learned that the gun belonged to a retired NYPD officer who often visited the shop. I bought the snubby NY-1 and the same officer's 4" NY-1. Also got to talk with the officer on the telephone a couple times. I posted about it in another thread.

I paid $445 for the snub and $375 for the 4" (with box). Honestly, I would have paid at least $550 and maybe $600 for the snub. There were not many of them. Got a deal because of the way it was listed.

Keeping this pair together. I understand that they patrolled Harlem and Washington Heights.

Here they are with a 3" NY-1

...and my newest find, a 640-2 (NYPD)

What's this? Hmm....Naaah. Probably not.

Here is a collection of 64-4s. This is the NY-1, a Brinks gun, and another DAO and regular.

Now that you mention it, I don't remember if it did or not, I just saw the factory bobbed hammer and matte finish and thought it was an NY-1.

Well, I went and looked at it again, and it's not an NY-1. I guess I saw that it had a matte finish and got excited. That said, I was able to haggle them down to $500 and I bought it.

Excellent. You've now have one of the best concealed carry revolvers ever. Post a photo.

TT Gunleather's KX Lightweight is a great IWB holster for snub K frames. A Barami Hip Grip and Tyler T Grip works as well.

Figure the pawn shop has half asking price in it... take some cash and start with 4 hundreds laid on the counter. If they balk, throw down a 50...

This is the Brinks gun (with Barami Hip Grip) and a regular 64-4 with the TT Gunleather KX Lightweight
** NOte - That holster is actually for a Colt Detective Special. Too lazy to walk upstairs for the actual K frame holster Fits close enough for the photo.

Dont forget the M60 NY-1 too!

Yes he DAO Rugers are nice guns too, may as well buyem when ya findem.

Rather than hijack this tread heres a link to some of mine. I have a few more since these photos were taken and added a few semi autos too.

When Jerry's Sport center was blowing these out at $169 (in 1989) I should have bought them all. There was even a $10 discount if'n you bought 3. Joe

That sounds like a good story. Would like to hear more about it. Did they "fall off a truck" or something? How does one get so many?

Hello friends,

Later this month I'll be picking up a used 64-4 2" from my local pawnshop. No box, paperwork, etc. The price (and the gun) look good to me. I don't have a photo yet, since it's still within the shop's inventory. (30 day requirement before resale.)

ANYWAY, I'm trying to figure out if it's a possible Brinks piece. I didn't see any NY-1 marking anywhere... so I suppose THAT'S out. It may be a standard 64-4 with a bobbed hammer. That would be fine with me also.

The hammer and trigger are not blued, and the stainless steel finish is a very dull matte style (not shiny at all).

The serial number is BDD26XX, and Roy Jinks says it was shipped in April, 1990. I have no way of knowing if was a unit returned to S&W, refinished, then resold... without an actual S&W letter though.

If anyone can give me some insight on my next to-be-adopted S&W, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Roger aka Mr. Wonderful

That sounds a lot like mine. I wonder if they're both from the same batch/contract?
The hammer and trigger on the older stainless guns are supposed to be chromed. S&W switched to a blackened finish when they stopped using forged hammers and triggers and switched to MIM,

Rich is/was a big NY-1 buff, he had em' in almost every variety. He spent most of his time cruising the gun shops in the NY suburbs.

Some of the guns Rich had, I originally sold to him, a M60 NY-1 and a 3 inch 64 NY-1, along with a 60-10 3 inch and a 686-4 4". Wish I had the 684 back.

Rich called me up and asked if I wanted any of the NY-1's back, or if I knew anyone interested.

I called wheelgun28 who is another NY-1 collector and asked if he wanted to tag along.
Remember the scene in Taxi Driver when the gun dealer was showing Travis Bickel the guns, it was the same, but more guns.

I took a 3 inch 64, and let Tom have what he wanted. There were still some Smiths and Rugers left.

I think Rich just lost interest after awhile and decided to liquidate.

BTW, yours is the first 2" 64 that I have seen that didn't have the vapor honed finish. Nice find.

I'm always in the market for a M60 NY-1, if anyone is looking to lighten their collection.

Seriously.

Please.

Well, I picked it up around an hour ago, so here are the pics!

If the pics aren't clear, it has a matte finish that looks a lot like the electroless nickel plating that Colt offered in the 80s.

Let me know if you guys want photos of a specific area.
