Default New red dot and mount for 686

I added a Raptor Engineering mount (from revolver_ph on the forum) and a Vortex Venom. I have a Bushnell TRS-25 on a 617 that will soon be replaced with a Vortex Venom. The Raptor Engineeering mount is a very well designed and finished mount and Phillip is great to deal with.

I agree I like how low it allows the optic to sit.

That is the first optic that I've seen that I like on a revolver.

I drilled and tapped a 625-2 so I could mount a Burris FF3 attached to a Raptor Engineering mount.

I move the FF3 and mount between a few of my S&W revolvers to check groupings of my reloads.

For normal range sessions I prefer factory iron sights.

Here's the Raptor Engineering on a snubby 686-4

I have that exact set up on a 6.5" 629 Classic. I only have a few hundred rounds through it, but I like it enough that I'm planning on that same set up on another S&W.

I used the Raptor to mount a FastFire III on my 629-4 PowerPort. This gun stays in my range bag.

I've recently become fascinated with the idea of a red dot sight on handguns. Just yesterday was my first trip to the range with one. I think I can really learn to like using them. Glad you guys are showing off the things you are doing with them on your own guns. Helps me decide just what I want to do with my own.

Default First Red Dot

This is my first red dot. Used a Raptor mount on a 4" 686 Plus with a Fastfire III. I love it. Had no problem finding the dot and follow up shots are much faster than iron sights. 62 year old eyes. The target was DA rapid fire at 20' if I remember correctly.

usafcct,

Darn good shooting at that distance and DA rapid fire!

When I google "Raptor Engineering mount" I get everything but a red dot mount.

Can you supply a link to it?

Anybody heard of J POINT? Here's a 625-8 PC! I came to me with it, iron sight, and the aluminum PC carry brief case, and a great moon clip loading tool.

Has anyone done or seen a comparison between these newer red dots? The Burris FastFire, Vortex, J Point, Leupold, etc. I have a FastFire 3 and a FastFire 2. The FF2 can't be manually changed for brightness (it automatically adjusts to ambient light) and it not bright enough for me, maybe a larger dot would help. I really like the FF3, it resides on my IZH35M bullseye pistol.

Does anyone know if the FF2 can be enhanced for a brighter dot? I can't get any response from Burris Customer Service to the question.

I bought the Raptor mount and a Burris Fast Fire III for range use, what a hoot. I've never shot a hand gun so well, it's almost like cheating. And for load testing from a rest it really allows you to see how good your reloads are.

Good day from a neighbor from the North. I am looking to setup my S&W 686 with the Vortex Venom Red dot sight and would like to get in touch with buddy from Raptor Engineering to place an order for that tiny mount. Any help in this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
