Had to get another 44 Mag today
Based on some great advice on this forum, I recently acquired my first 44 magnum, a 629-3 5-inch Classic last week and put a Leupold red dot on a Allchin scope mount. Well, as many of you have experienced, one is never enough. I was fortunate to find this 629-5 4-inch at a local pawn shop today, and for $680, I couldn’t pass it up. The serial is CDF3938. Can someone tell me when it was made?

The says the -5 was from 1997 - 2001.
Yours looks like 1999.
The book also says March 1999 - CDE, CDF, CDH, CDJ.
Now that you have 2 of them, you need to learn to twirl them on your forefinger and carry them cross draw like Billy the Kid.

Congrats on a nice find!
I have a couple of the 629-5 models (5" & 6.5") and they are both great shooters. I am sure you will enjoy shooting yours! Handy barrel length, too.
I think the 5" is about perfect for these revolvers, but the 4" has it's place, too, and is a favorite of many on this forum.

A 5" barrel on an N-Frame is my favorite configuration... very nice on both counts, especially on the price.
No way could I pick up a no-lock 625-5 4" for less than $700, that gun would have a $900 tag on it in CA.

That would've been a hard one to walk away from. Those are two excellent 44s to own. I have a dash 3 5"er and a dash 4 4"er. Great shooters. Congrats!

I didn't own a single revolver up until last summer and now I'm starting to hear "do you really need another one?" from my significant other. I won't blame you guys though.

IMHO reloading is essential for full enjoyment of 44. Not only do you save a boatload but you can tailor your loads to a level that is actually fun to shoot.

44 magnum is one of my favorites . Because I reload I can make them from " mild to wild " , fun to shoot . I just shoot the Keith 245 gr swc , H&G 503 mold . The lyman 429421 makes a good mold representative of the Keith bullet . Use the faster burn powders ( titegroup , bullseye , reddot , WST , IMR 700X etc) for the mild loads . Slower powders for mid range (Universal , WSF etc) and for full magnum loads (IMR 4227, Accurate #9, Accurate 4100 etc) .

Congratulations, but it isn't fair! I don't even have 1 .44! Have 45ACP, and 45Colt guns though. I keep looking, but the right thing has not come along. Enjoy them! Bob
