Default Lost revolver to...yes...my Wife!

How many of you have bought a fine revolver that you planned to cherish and shoot, only to have your wife shoot it and have her claim that it's her revolver now?

Well, it has happened to me. Back in 1973, I sold a S&W Model 15-3 "Combat Masterpiece" and regretted it ever since. Well, I bought a 15-4 in pristine condition, took it to the range, my wife shot it, and now it's her gun? She realized it doesn't bite as much as that ultra-light 2" revolver she thought was so cute. Now, the "Combat Masterpiece" she calls, "My gun" and now it is the one in the night stand on her side of the bed. She doesn't want me to shoot it anymore and get it dirty. I have to ask to even look at it!!

By golly, I wear the pants in this house!

God bless,
Birdgun

My wife did the same thing with the same gun.
Others sneak guns in the house so the wife don't know.

I sneak them in so she don't glom onto them.

She' got a purty durn good collection herself.

I do get to clean them once in a while.

A friend sold his M 15 many years ago and lamented that decision.
His wife bought back the exact gun he sold and gave it back to him.
That`s what I call a great wife.
However, it must be nice to have a wife that will not allow a great gun to leave the household in the first place.

Sounds like your future gun purchases should be focused on his and hers matched sets.

SO far, I've lost a P30 and VP9 HK. A nice older NIB lady smith that she HAD to have because of those beautiful grips, AND a .375 Winchester that had such a lovely stock that it had to be displayed above the door in her kitchen?! God I love that women!! Consider yourself blessed!

Sorry for your lose.

I had to start shooting X-frames to keep mine from being taken.

I have a twist on that theme. My husband gave me a 2 1/2" PC 686+ for Christmas, and now he's the one who carries it.

In 1981 I let her shoot my Colt Python at the out door range.
Next thing I heard was "Thanks for the nice revolver."
Had to marry her so I can look at it.
In her night stand, ready for what ever......

My wife was eyeing my 686 (no dash), but I fended her off with a Taurus Model 85, which fit her hands better.

Thought I was slick.

Then she found my 640-1. I really miss that j-frame,
but I can shoot the Taurus anytime I want.

I lost a very nice Winchester 101 20ga Pigeon Grade O/U shotgun to Ms. Shinbone. Worked out well because now that she has her "own" gun, she will go sporting clays shooting with me. She's turned in to a better shot than most guys, too.

My wife buys herself whatever she fancies. She ALMOST walked out of a LGS with a Kriss Vector last Friday. Only the fact we were late to a family event kept her from buying it!

I have a re-nickel M&P, 5", not a collector but a beautiful gun and a great shooter, that my wife hasn't seen yet. I know she's going want it, because she just loves the pretty, shiny ones. I'm looking forward to her reaction, really.

The only gun she ever noticed and wanted was Kim Basinger's gun in the re-make of "The Getaway". It was a stainless 1911 if I recall , and this M&P is lots prettier than that!

These are all very good problems to have.

Had a lady at a CCW class shooting a Glock 19. Very well, too. So during some downtime, I ask her if she wants to try out my new-to-me 26. 'Course she says yes, and enjoys it very much. Says she's gonna make the husband go buy her one to carry.

She jokes the husband (who happens to be a sheriff's deputy) is gonna be ticked at me.

So I tell her, "Why? I just talked his wife into getting him to buy a gun!"

In my case it was a Colt Detective Special. I let my wife shoot it once and didn't get it back for over 20 years.

I have a Competitor in 357 my wife loves to look at (and I KNOW she would take as hers) but she feels it is way too heavy for her to hold....and i just leave all of the weights in it to let her keep thinking that!

My wife tried to claim my 4" 19-4 and ruin it by putting pink grips on it. Luckily there aren't many square butt pink grips out there to be found. I didnt have to lie to her about the availability of pink grips at least. I don't know what would have been worse, losing the model 19 to her, or having to look at that thing with with pink grips on it......Nope...... pink grips would have been worse. She eventually took over my feg hi power clone, and I shudder every time I glance at that thing. Ughhh. I just can't help but feel bad for it.

Birdgun again, the OP on this thread.

All of these posts have put a smile on my face and often an understanding chuckle. As Wise_A said, "These are all very good problems to have." Certainly, having a wife that's not afraid of guns and actually shoots them is a not a bad problem! And, having a good wife is the best of problems to have. My wife and I have been married now over 42 years.

But, I want everyone here to know this very clear!
I have my wife trained exactly the way she wants me...

Thanks for all the replies. Life is good.

God bless,
Birdgun

I bought a 642-1 NL.. she tried it and "its ok" with the factory boot grips. Then I put a set of S&W Banana grips on it.... well she decided it was " destined " to be her gun......

I replaced it with a 640 no dash....

Lucky me......

Love the Tyler T-grip on the 640.

I have T-grips on a few of my carry revolvers, and really like the way they fill my hand, but don't make the 'concealed' part of 'concealed carry' more difficult.

I would like to find a 640 in .38Spl. I keep looking.

My wife doesn't care for revolvers, but she's never shot any of my S&W revolvers. Perhaps I shouldn't tempt her too much?

OP, awesome Model 15!

My wife claimed my 4 inch S&W Model 681 after I put Crimson Trace grips on it. I get to shoot it to re-zero the laser when we end up changing carry ammo, otherwise it's all hers.

Yeah, the "little gun for my wife" is a full-size service revolver.
