I've got a friend who wants to sell his 16-4. It's the 6" version with box (no manual/tools) and it's pretty clean...95% plus. Grips are correct. No issues other than the box is worn but complete. It's hard to find enough sales examples to see where the values are. What's a ballpark value?

95%, I'd still give a grand.

I would buy it myself for 1k. I would buy several at those prices.

Interesting. I took mine to the gun show in Orlando last year just to see what kind of interest there might be in it. Mine is pristine, box and papers, etc., very slight turn line on the cylinder. All of the dealers told me that the gun was not worth more than $600 max. due to the slight turn line on the cylinder. They all said that no one would be interested in one with a "turned" cylinder.

I'm not an expert and can't offer much to OP's question but the above amount sounds like dealer hype to me but location may have something to do with it. Also, my judgement may be clouded as I currently have two 4" models. One is LNIB and the other is a very clean shooter grade. It also has original grips, box, docs, etc. but as of last week, now has been reamed to .327 Fed mag. Point I'm making is $1k wouldn't buy either of them. As for your friend's gun's value, based on what I think is current and fair for 95% shooter grade w/ tattered box, I'm guessing $1000-$1200 for what I'd want in it??? Just my opinion.

I sold my last one,a 6" anib,here on the forum last year for $1,200. As usual,I sold it too cheaply,but still a good bit more than I paid for it.

Those dealers were not being honest. They might not have paid over $600 for thr turned cylinder, but plenty of others would. I think any decent model 16 will bring over $1000 and I am not just say that because I gave more than that for my 4" 16-4. They just are not out there to buy and if somebody really wants one they will pay.

These are the same people that sell cars who will say to your face that your Ferrari 812 Superfast is worth 50% of its actual value, because of tire tread wear. And no one buys them in red.

Agree with the $1200 value estimate on the 16-4, a sought after and scarce gun.

I'm fortunate to have the 16-4 in all three barrel lengths, purchased several years ago. I paid about $1000 for each of them, with boxes, etc. They are beautiful guns / great aesthetic appeal. Shoot great too.

First, concerning D. Brown's visit to the Orlando gun show...

If somebody told me the gun (with box) was only worth $600 because of the turned cylinder, that would make the rest of the discussion very simple and brief. Either the person is really ignorant, or most likely trying a lowball offer... just in case YOU don't know what you have.

I'd walk away and wouldn't engage that kind of buyer for any deals... no trust there.

Now back to your actual question...

When in comes to value, I'd probably estimate in the $1000 to $1200 range. You can find the paperwork and anything else needed over time. The price range would be condition dependent.

At 95%, I'd offer $1000 in a heartbeat. Since you say it's a friend selling it, you probably know it's use history.

The 16-4 is a very desirable gun. Its what those of us who can't afford an earlier Model 16/K-32 end up settling for. They're also outstanding shooters and not a whole lot of them were made. I consider the 6" to be the most desirable.
$1000 would be the low end. $1200-1300 would be reasonable, but to the right buyer, $1500 isn't out of the question. It just depends on how bad you want it.

Most on Gunbroker have gone over $1500 in the last few years. I have given up finding a shooter grade to use.

The $600 offers were lo ball at 60 % of bottom dollar. Keep in mind, they are "dealers". May only set up at guns shows, but they're still dealers and they make a "profit" to cover expenses.

Paid $850 (at a gun show to a private individual) for my 98+% six inch 16-4 without box/papers three years ago and felt very fortunate to get it. Would be very surprised to find it now for less than $1000 and would expect to find it with an asking price of $1200 or so. Oh, and they pretty much all have turn lines. Good luck.

Thanks all. I was thinking 1200-1500. They don't come up for sale that often. I've also got some other nice ones that will be for sale...nickel 12-2 2", couple of K22 1st models, 66-0, 17-2, 18-2, etc.
