Default Current value on 629 8 3/8's

Hi All, Was wandering thru a small GS yesterday and saw a used 629-6 8 3/8's barrel. I didn't have alot of time to go over it but, lock up was tight, looked clean and with box asking $700. Im pondering going back to further examine it and ask a few q's on its origin. Is it worth the time and what big issues should I be concerned with? What would be a fair offer if I like what I see? Thanks Ron

If want one, and it passes your inspection, then pounce on it. I haven't seen a 8 3/8" 629-6 for sale locally for over two years. Plenty of 6" versions, though. ( i did throw money at a local 8 3/8" 629-5 version yesterday! And happy with the $800 price tag.)

Got a few pics to look at. Anyone see anything of concern? I dont, but no expert by any means. One owner age 81, farm gun. Traded in to get a 6" model. Too heavy at that age. Model #163640 04/2009. Pretty firm on the $700. A little wiggle room, but not much ill bet. Need to decide by tomorrow Thanks!! Ron

Looks good from the pics. If it feels good in hand and is mechanically sound jump on it. The grips are cheap and easy to change but I bet you'll like the square butt Pachs. $700 is a good price on any N frame in good shape. Good luck

A new 629 Classic is $989 according to the S&W website..

0nly barrel length available is 6 1/2.. No 8 3/8 offered..

Life's too short.. lf you want it, buy it. l paid $700 for a

629-4 Classic 8 3/8 several yrs back.. No box and l am fine

with the price... l like a nice looking gun and DOG too..

After pondering all afternoon, I've decided to go back tomorrow and buy if someone hasn't beaten me to it. Im looking at getting a set of the hogue grips to try them versus the pachs currently on it. On the S&W store page they list two grips. One is for the round butt, the other for the square butt. One has the S&W logo and one doesnt. Which would be the one that originally came with it? Part # if possible? I read on this site somewhere that the larger X frame hogues will also fit. Anybody have an answer to that? Figure its worth the small investment. Thanks. Ron

Funny!!!!!! I thought id be cool about it( for once!) and go in
and offer $650 and see what happens. Said $675. I said how about $700 out the door ( State tax + $10 DOJ fee) He called the shop owner, and he told him that its been there about a week. It wont be long before someone else buys it. So.... $675 + fees = $723. total. Coming home on Tuesday. They were closing in 5 minutes so, $100 down and rest on Tuesday. WooHoo!!!!!!!
