...bought a new revolver because you had great set of grips to put on it?

Honestly, the fact that I already had this nice set of K frame combat grips was was not the primary impetus behind buying this beautiful 17-9, but it did weigh heavily on the decision. Picked her up this morning from the LGS, she is lightly used with a good finish and faint turn line, and dates to 2015 according to the SCSW 4th edition. Despite being lightly used, I could tell that the gun was never cleaned as evidenced by lead fouling build-up as thick as the forcing cone around all around the forcing cone, along with heavy leading in the barrel and cylinder chambers. I bought this gun to be a shooter, so being a little dirty and showing a little wear was ok with me. An hour of scrubbing removed the bulk of the residue and lead, leaving her looking near new once again. An afternoon trip to the range yielded great performance, and accuracy leaving me very happy with my purchase. As a bonus, the 200 or so copper jacketed rounds I fired through it this afternoon knocked the remaining stuck-on lead fouling loose, and a second cleaning left her looking near minty fresh. My guess is that someone bought it new, and shot it until it was gummed up and malfunctioning, then traded it in thinking it was broken. I'm glad they did, as most model 17s, new or used, that come up for sale in my area are priced at $1000 or more, so at the discount I got this one for, I think I got a good deal.

The model 17 has been on my want list for many years, and though I would have preferred an older one, this 17-9 was priced just right, and definitely has the quality that expect from S&W. She is definitely a keeper!

Congratulations! The Md 17 is an awesome gun and you will enjoy it. However, as to your original question, no I have not. I have some nice spare stocks and maybe I will one day find the right gun for them.

OK, let me be honest but not hurtful. The S&W stocks on your gun are (in my opinion) the least aesthetically pleasing of any S&W stocks ever made. I had the same ones on my Md 16 but went to Targets. Now I'm pleased. However,I will definitely keep the originals for future owner.

In the late 80's,I was competing with a K38(model 14)6'' in ISU.I had Morini medium size grips on it.
My second handgun ever was a K22(mod 17)with same exact configuration.I even brought the trigger sensitivity to be the same on both guns but could never bring me down to paying the full price for the nice target Morini grips.
2 years ago,a lady at the club said she was parting away from her gun collection amongst which there was a model 10 with, you guessed it,a Morini etc etc same model as mine.Long story short,I bought the gun(which came with the standard small Magna grips+1 pair of Pachmayr grips),put the Morinis on my K22,sold the Pachmayr's $15 to one of my friends, gave the small Magnas to my daughter who liked them for her K22 and sold the gun for the same price I had paid for.
Guess I should have run to buy me a lottery ticket that day.

The gun was priced at $799, and the LGS had a special on used firearms last week, offering 10% off, bringing the price down to $720. I also made a trade deal with them, and cleared out a few items from my gun safe that don't have much value, or see enough use. This particular dealer is very generous on trade credit, and offered me enough in trade for 3 guns that I brought in to get the 17, 2 boxes of Winchester 222, some cleaning supplies to restock my kit, and additional cash back. In my mind I made out well.

To each his own I suppose, I happen to like these grips a lot, equally for feel and looks. I bought them about a month ago from out of the used case at my local shooting range. The owner had labeled them as N Frame grips, though I was fairly sure at the time that they were not going to fit the 28-2 I wanted to put them on, but for $20 it was worth a shot.

I too really like the looks of target grips, however they don't fit my hand very well. As noted above, I have a 28-2 and previously owned a 19-2 both with target grips, and neither fit my hand all that well. I also find the magna grips to be a bit too small, thus I prefer something in between. For the 19-2, I ordered a set of Pachmayr Gripper Pros which fit my hand nicely, but were just not very good looking. In general, I have been very disappointed with Pachmayr's quality since Lyman bought them, preferring to buy NOS grips when I can find them. I decided that I wanted something nicer for my 28 than the grippers so I have been on the hunt for a while now for a nice set similar to these K Frame combat grips that won't break the bank. Hogue hardwood grips keep grabbing my attention, however I am not a fan of the mounting system requiring me to drive out the roll pin at the bottom of the grip frame.

Now I have bought revolvers to get the stocks that were on it. However I have negotiated a lower price on a few with the wrong stocks or goodyears on it knowing I have the correct stocks at home for it.

Never bought a revolver because of a lonely set of grips, but I did buy my 4" m19-3 because someone gave me a holster a 4" K-frame fits. Can't have lonely holsters either....

No, but I did buy a Colt Official Police once because I had a really cool antique holster for it.
