Looking to try and figure out an approx value since they seem to be all over the place on GB and also if I am missing anyhting that came from the factory thanks for any help. Serial # is ahl5136

Welcome to the Neighborhood!
I think the market for a 3" 66 is at a premium, possibly in the $700 to $1000 range depending on condition. I've got a 2.5" that I paid less for, but the demand for the 3 inchers is crazy.
Even though I haven't seen one yet, S&W has come out with a 2.75" 66 that might soften the market for the 3" 66's some, but that remains to be seen. Hope this helps!

Welcome! It probably had a cleaning kit and SAT (sight adjustment tool), but if it is anywhere less than $1000 run, do not walk, back and get it! $1200-1400 would be more typical in the current market.

I second what murphydog says. Sold a -3 last year for 1500 NIB. Kept an extra nice (98%+) that I can shoot and enjoy -4. Would not part with it for less than a grand.

For some reason the AHLxxxx serial prefix is missing from the 4th Edition Catalog of S&W but your box shows it shipped on the 30th of April 1985.
My 3" 66-2 is also an AHL53xx serial
There were at least 5000 3" 66-2 were made in 1985 and shipped Ashland Shooting Supplies.
I've heard of AHL,AHJ and AHU

Junk, avoid at all costs!
Where exactly is it so I can warn other potential buyers?

As prices rise on 1995 and older revolvers with hammer mounted firing pins more will come on the market from profit seekers.

More like you "stole" it for $825. Congratulations! A great deal and a great revolver.

Great info, jughed, and thanks for posting for the benefit of all of us 66-2 3" owners. You broke my heart, though, because now it appears my AFK prefix gun isn't one of the Ashland group as I had hoped it was. Oh well. At least I now understand that there were more than the approx. 5,000 Ashland guns in the 66-2 series. Still tickled to death to have one of these!

I have a -3 and couldn't care less.
I also have two 3" 624's, and never checked to see if they were Horton's or not, doesn't matter to me. They look identical either way.

Makes no difference which company sold your 66. It's a beauty...and a grail gun for many.
