Default 586 with titanium cylinder?

Good evening,

About a year ago I bought a blue frame 6" 586 with a non-fluted titanium cylinder, no box. I have never seen such an animal and personal opinion says it was changed out. Anyone know if a 586 was ever built in this configuration? I would love to post a pic but find web pic hosting sites unmanageable. Thanks ahead of time for those willing to share their knowledge.

You don't need a photo hosting site. The board does it by itself.

Then it stays here for ever and ever.

Pic posted, thanks for the help. Serial number AAL6674. Never looked at the gun closely until now, just threw it in the safe....cylinder is stainless I think, as opposed to titanium.

Titanium cylinders were introduced about 2000 and I believe your 586 was made before they were available. I don't know of any titanium 6 shot cylinder that would fit it but I don't know everything. At any rate it is interesting.

It's not original. A previous owner installed an unfluted stainless cylinder. Probably in the '90's or later, when those cylinders were inventoried and could be bought as a part from S&W. The gun would of shipped in '82 - '83. Too bad the original cylinder didn't come with the deal.

Nice, revolver
A buddy of mine has a 586 with a stainless fluted cylinder, and his is documented that it left the factory that way

That appears to be bead blasted stainless. There is slight peening on the straight edge of stop notches. Never seen Ti do that.

You can easily find a standard 586 cylinder to swap back in, or enjoy it as is. What a dilemma .
