Default never used this excuse before

I was organizing some ammo recently and ran across 10 boxes of 10mm ammo I had forgotten about.

problem was, I no longer had a 10mm handgun.

so, do I

a) try to sell the ammo (at a loss no doubt)

or

b) purchase a 10mm handgun again and enjoy these 10 boxes at the range myself?

I chose b)

just had to decide which one.

thought about a 3rd gen S&W. thought about a Glock. thought about a 610.

and here is the handgun that will help me run thru those boxes...

its a 610-2 that i recently purchased from another forum member.

(I used to own a 610 no dash. that's why I had a few boxes sitting around)

thought it might wear these flat side combats on it so it looked a little more like my old no dash...

anyone else purchase a firearm specifically to use up some ammo?

Yikes. You have me thinking.I got a bunch of 10mm ammo in a deal about 3 years ago and was contemplating a Glock 20, But seeing your 610.. makes me rethink the plastic purchase. Seems like a much better way to "use up" ammo.

Nice choice! Putting one on my radar screen. Maybe a 4" model...

Seems like solid logic to me. I once purchased a .30-06 rifle simply due to the fact I had picked up a couple of hundred empty cases and needed an excuse to reload them...

Beautiful gun! Enjoy!

Hmm....
I have 5 rounds of .40 S&W that I don't have a gun for.
Seems a shame for all that good ammo to go to waste....

I had sold an SP101 327 and I tried selling the 5 boxes of 32 caliber ammo with no luck. So I bought a Colt Police Special to shoot the remaining .32 ammo.
I guess I am stuck with the gun because I didn't notice the barrel was ringed. I didn't notice it till months after purchase when I was cleaning the gun to refinish it. The patina hid the outside light bulge. Oh well the gun shoots good and all else is good to go with it.

I did something similar yesterday. I've been loading a lot of 357 mag for my sons deer rifle, and hoping to get to WI to shoot my lever gun. I've also used it to feed my pro series 627-5, so why not get a conceal carry gun in 357 to cover that aspect? Yep, grabbed the 3" 686+ from the PX, since it's been there for two years, and I was able to talk them down to $552 otd.....just sent the nations finest rebate in today too. So yeah, to get rid of the "surplus" 357 mag ammo that my sons deer rifle doesn't like, I did.

I had a bucket of 45acp range brass but no 45acp pistol. I now have to many 1911's (I know, that's not possible!). I had loaded some 44 mag rounds that were no fun in my 629. I now have a 44 mag lever gun. I found some 8 round moon clips...

If you're looking for a 6" barrel, take a look at the newest 10mm Glock 40

Default never used this excuse before

thanks for the support, forum members.

nice to be around so many wise and like minded individuals.

not sure I can come up with an excuse if I go ahead and pick up this 5 inch 610 no dash I saw today

heck I might even have to buy more 10mm ammo if I have two of these babies.

such a vicious cycle.

Not a vicious circle;that is a very catchy disease for which my usual antidote is made by Smith and Wesson and a few other makers. But be careful, you have to make the right diagnosis so as to choose the right antidote.
Heck,I just sneezed.Guess I caught that bug they call .41 Magnum.Somebody knows where I could find a 6'' model 57 to cure me?

Nice acquisition! I reckon the 5" is a must if only for that great barrel length, cylinder release and are those custom sights?

Very nice! And dang, I just bought a Delta Elite!

I've never bought a gun because of ammo, but years ago a friend bought a box of .243 Winchester because he intended to buy a rifle in that caliber.

He never did, and still hasn't!

someone along the way installed a millet type rear sight and a red ramp front sight. i don't believe any of these no dashes had factory red ramps did they?

the sight set up seems like it would be really good from a shooter's standpoint. not sure if that combo will stick or if it will go back to original specs.

with the shorter barrel length and not being as nose heavy, i think those flat sided combats i tried on the 6.5 inch will be better suited to this 5 inch.

will get it cleaned up and post some photos.

I have. About 20 years ago picked up 20 cases of 7.62x39 at cost from a dealer friend who was going out of business (saved him from having to ship it back). Only problem, no 7.62x39 gun, so went out and bought an AK. The ammo didn't even last a year, but I still have the rifle.

I finally learned (the hard way) to hang on to ammo for guns with chamberings I no longer own. I've been in and out of 40's,357's,45's, etc so many times, that I now try to keep some ammo permanently on hand, knowing one of them may fall my way again in another Armslist deal.
That being said, just the other day I used (my last) 2 boxes of Winchester Ranger in .40 S&W to sweeten a trade deal, but I REALLY don't expect to get into another .40 (famous last words! ).

Long ago a guy had 6 or 8 boxes of .30 luger ammo he was trying to sell. And he had a P210-5 he didn't want - real bad. But he wanted what I felt was to much for it. So I manned up and told him I'd pay his price if he tossed in the .30 ammo. He told me it wouldn't fit, that the 210 was 9mm. So I told him I didn't care! It baffled him, but he wanted money badly. So I ponied up the cash and got the gun and the ammo. It fits another P210-2 that I've got. Its the advantage of not owning just 1 gun. Other stuff fits.

Oh, and then I resold the -5 gun in a couple of months. For what I paid. Turned out I got the .30 ammo for free. Kind of a profit.

based on other revolvers, i imagine i will prefer the balance of the 5 inch barrel over the 6.5 inch.

my plan is to load up a bunch of moon clips and go thru 3-4 boxes of 10mm per range trip, enjoying both barrel lengths.

maybe I'll choose to keep one of the two, or maybe I'll use up the ammo and offer both for sale, or maybe I'll keep them both and start to reload 10mm.

who knows. i certainly don't.

LOL I like the way you think. Hopefully shooting them will result in a good outcome. If it were me and I liked them, I'd be hard pressed to sell.

Have a friend that if acquires some odd ammo then he has to go buy something to shot it.

If I use this theory, I could be in large trouble.....I collect old ammo boxes. Have ammo, need guns??? Could cause trouble at home!!

hmmm, other related excuses:

Oh shoot, these grips are pre-war N frames, don't fit my 1950, have to buy another .44, shucks.

They don't make this model anymore, I should get a back up or two.

Those 22 Jet reloading dies look interesting, wow$20, in the original box... if only I had a model 53 now...

Oooh, a Leupold scope for $125... what a bargain, and Super Redhawk Scope Rings for anther $25....hmmm, now to get a SRH....

A couple of years ago, I realized that I had hundreds of 45ACP rounds on hand that I didn't care to shoot in my Colt Gold Cup that lived way in the back of the safe. Thought it would be fun to shoot them in a nice S&W revolver so I started looking. Almost settled on a standard model 625 until I saw a model 325 Thunder Ranch. End of search!

hello Randy,

i can relate to you on that one. had a custom shoulder holster for a Sig 229 SAS. Sold that Sig.

Later discovered I had a new problem that needed to be solved.

So why don't you tell us about your holster problem that you solved?

Default excuse before

unfortunately I did not need any excuses today while attending a LGS.

Nothing for me.

Came home and pulled a few things out of the safe and had my own gun show.

Took a few photos, changed out some grips, and mostly admired.

liked the sunlight on these 610's late afternoon today
