Default Separated At Birth. Two Rare PC Brothers Meet

It was a beautiful day in Lincolnton, Ga at a practice match prior to the regular IHMSA season. Full size 55 lb rams at 200 meters. sw282 brought his rare bird, a PC 657-5 which had made its first appearance in Gainesville, Ga at the season opener a few weeks ago. One of those "I've never heard of much less seen before" Smiths. It was a special run for Davidson's, product # 170235. Ship date 1/16/04. Much like the 629 Light Hunter but with an interchangeable front sight and of course, in 41 magnum.

Well, surprise surprise, another shooter arrives and opens his gun rug and hiding inside is the identical gun. Only 12 serial numbers apart. Made for an interesting meet for sure. What are the odds of two rare S&Ws showing up AND being put to work like they were made to?

sw282 was so thrilled he shot a 42 out of a possible 40!!!!

lt was quite a SURPRISE seeing DMM0081 laying on the shooting

table...Just twelve away from my DMM0093... Less than 200 of these

made from my feeble research.. Proves once and AGAIN that PC guns

shoot as good as they LOOK.. Sad to see S&W abandon 41 Magnums..

With the ODDS of this chance meeting l maybe should have bought a

couple Lottery Tickets!!!

My thanks to 75vette for posting these pics/thread..

sw282's first words to me when we arrived at Lincolnton were basically: "You won't believe what showed up here!"

Was too busy getting a new pistol (not revolver!) sorted and checking come-ups on the "high rise" 629's new scope to see how the .41s fared. Very happy to find that the extra power and clarity worked out past 100m with the .44. But it was so windy I think I was blown out of position on the Rams on all but one shot. Not the bullets being blown off course, but the operator! Just about every time I released the hammer the crosshairs were on the Ram's head. Happily, Kdiver58 kept calling hits in that area, so: Good Enough!

Did note that "The Robert" had ANOTHER Freedom Arms .41 Mag revolver. Sneaky, those champion shooters!

And LarryD brought out his 29-5 Classic revolver with the early four hole "new style" rear sight configuration. Whether he shot it or not, I don't know, as it was a practice/warm up match. No score keeping for anybody, not just the special few. I think I got a couple of photos of it, just haven't uploaded them yet.

We shot at an almost frantic pace, it seemed! No "Shooter to the line" command, just "Load!" and then the honking of the electronic horn thing.

You did QUITE WELL Jay.. l saw FOUR of those half-scale rams fall

at 200 Meters in a row from your bolt gun!! l did notice my 657PC

shoots lots flatter than my 44 Magnum Hunter on the turkeys and

rams at 150 and 200 Meters... The wind was really STRONG on Sat..

More than once l would aim at pig #1 and hit #2 instead. Counts as a

MISS... That gusty wind reminded me of shooting Prairie Dogs in the

Dakotas and West Texas with a Rifle... You could be aiming at a varmint

and the wind push the bullet a couple feet right or left hitting his Buddy...

0r you might have to aim 4 feet right just to hit him.. Love the wind....

A great Saturday

I've been out of the game for quite a few years now, but when did IHMSA start allowing scopes? Assume this is a separate class?

By no means an expert, still getting my feet wet and learning the ropes but there is a class for Field Pistol Production any Sight. Very welcome for older fuzzy eyes!

LOTS of new classes to you in all likelihood. For 200m Big Bore there's:

Production (no scope)
Revolver (no scope)
Standing (no scope)
Unlimited (no scope)
Unlimited Any Sight
Unlimited Standing (scope allowed)
Unlimited 1/2 Scale (no scope)
Unlimited 1/2 Scale Any Sight
Practical Hunter Long Course (scopes allowed and bipods in the lower standings)

Same basic classes for 100yd/m .22 Smallbore shot on 3/8 scale targets.
Substitute 1/5 scale for the 1/2 scale Big Bore classes:
Unlimited 1/5 Scale (no scope)
Unlimited 1/5 Scale Any Sight

Then there's the Standing only 100yd Field Pistol (no scope) and Field Pistol Any Sight shot on 1/2 scale targets. My favorite two classes. As far as anyone knows, NOBODY has ever shot a perfect 40 in Field Pistol! And only a handful have done it in FPAS.

There's Practical Hunter Short Course (100yd/m) which is more or less FPAS shot freestyle, again bipods allowed in the lower standings.

There's also a couple of not quite altogether "official" Bordello classes. Basically it's Field Pistol with defensive type handguns. And no sight changes during the match after sighters are fired. Colorado Style Bordello uses Big Bore targets at the Field Pistol distances. "Regular" Bordello uses the 1/2 scale targets normally used in FP. BTW, max barrel length for Bordello is 5" pistol, 4" revolver. But you can use shorter, as one of our intrepid shooters did last year! A 1 7/8" barreled Centennial .38! Hit something at every distance, he did...

A bit less rare, but kinda weird, a 29-5 Classic with the new style (but four holes in the topstrap) rear sight seen at the practice match:

Much bigger photos than below if you click on them.

Not my usual method of adding photos, sorry! Not working as hoped

The storage and handling weren't in my control!
