I have a shallow Vee rear sight on my J-frame, 317-3 with a 3 inch barrel with a fiber optic front sight. Now on paper the shallow v sounds like a good idea. The fiber optic front is a winner, but the shallow V sucks rocks . It is very hard to shoot accurately. Just hitting cans at 25 feet is hard and I'm a decent shot. Before you go to the expense try shooting one and see if you like it.
I'm replacing mine with anything but a shallow vee.

Thanks gentlemen, I'll keep both inputs in mind. I like the gold bead front a lot and basically opened up the rear blade a little with a file to make sure I can see the whole bead. I'll keep looking for a V type sight but maybe something less shallow with a pocket for the bead where the V comes together. I am looking at this as a carry setup. I wish Xpress sights had a rear blade for the J and not just for the K,L and N frames.
The windage issue at least with rifles I've shot with V type sights is to put a white, tritium or gold vertical line directly under the center of the rear V sight blade. You end up being able to use this like a post for the dot or bead on your front sight, if you have the time for maximum accuracy concerns. In a defensive situation you may only have time to get a decent flash sight picture anyway.
