I have a 686-2 that I posted about on here several years ago looking for info on it. It has an unfluted cylinder, a 104249 product code (classic hunter) and a serial number AZJXXXX. It was suggested that it could be a late run transition gun. I was hoping to get an approximate value. Thanks in advance for any info.

I think they were made for a couple of years in the late 80's. Not sure there is a lot of difference between this gun and a standard 686 other than the non fluted cylinder. Pre lock 686's are becoming sought after more today than they were. They have an incredible single action trigger. I refer to mine as the poor mans Python. As far as value goes, there were several closed auctions on the same couple of guns that didn't sell. Only one bid on any of the auctions for 550. The gun is worth more than that but less than the buy now price of 1000. I love the 586 and 686's. They are outstanding guns. I have paid anywhere from 650 - 900 depending on the package. 686's are more common than the 586's. The shorter barrel versions bring more. May not be a lot of help, but it gets you started.

Thank you for the info, it is very helpful. I wasn't sure if there was any added value because this is a dash 2 gun and the scsw says that the classic hunter was introduced with the dash 3's. Thanks again, I appreciate the reply.
